Which shipper would you use?

I had 3 MK1 Scirocco windshields made in England, they finally got to Columbus, OH. I was supposed to drive out and pick them up seeing from friends along the way but way too busy these days. Went to freightquote.com and got these rates.

Which shipper would you use? A bit of googling it was an easy choice.

I've used Forward Air a bunch.

Never had an issue.

I've used forward air for heavy stuff on a pallet, always seems fine. It ain't windshields tho.

I've used Old Dominion and YRC. When it comes to windshields I don't think I'd go cheap.

What Craig said.

I've used OD many times over the years for various things. Never the cheapest, but I've never had an issue.

We've had some bad experiences with YRC.
Old Dominion has been good, but is usually more expensive for us.
Fedex freight has been fine for us.
Haven't used forward air.
Stay the hell away from XPO logistics.

Make sure they are insured for full value, whoever you use.

Shaun @ Tru6 11-24-2021 11:06 AM

After googling Central Transport reviews (incredibly low price = huge red flag) and then TForce reviews, I just went with a name I know I could trust and that was Forward Air. Old Dominion was equally considered.

Graham, going through the process, I could have purchased insurance through the carrier or separately. I don't remember what it said other than "most people choose separate insurance" so I am going that route. I've asked Pilkington who they recommend.

I'll also take pics first and then open the crate while the driver is here.

You can always put them up on "Shipping Wars" ! :D

Hopefully you have better luck that I did with Forward Air. Had a set of PCCB rotors shipped to me from CA, and had the seller not done such a good job crating them and packing, there is no way they would have made it to my house.

Delays, broken pallet, you name it. Was a complete disaster.

Shaun @ Tru6 11-24-2021 02:01 PM

I hope so too! Since Pilkington made and packed the crate, I have to think it is at least packed extremely well.

I took a ton of pictures as well as it looked like it had been run over by something. And as you are aware a set of four rotors was not exactly cheap...

The pallet was supposed to arrive on a day I was in town and instead was a week late while I was out of town. Had to call a friend to move it into my garage.

Did you make some extra windshields?

I had 3 made in 3 different colors so I could choose the one I like best and sell the other two to pay for all three.

That is awesome!

Please post the pictures when you are testing them out.
