Our dog trims his nails on the couch

So we have had our pup for about a year , he is coming up on being two years old . He is supposedly an Australian shepherd/German shepherd/Labrador mix per the previous owner . For about the past 6 months or so he randomly will hop up on the couch and start trimming his toe nails by chewing them !

As I am typing this he is doing his nails 😊. He methodically does front paws first then the rears . He generally will do all four before stopping . I have owned a LOT of dogs in my life and I never had one that self grooms like this one .

Is he bored ? Is he hungry ? Or just a snappy dresser 😁. It is really funny to watch . We were at the vet this morning for yearly checkup and we all had a laugh when they said his nails look good ! Anyone else have an active self groomer ?

My chocolate Lab now licks her private parts! I trained her well... didn't have to show her more than a few times

I hate to ask, but did you train on the dog or yourself?😂

On second thought, don’t tell me.

She was probably a bit uncomfortable the first few times, I bet. I’m surprised she didn’t bite cha!

Know why dogs lick themselves?

Because they can

Mine chews his nails too. He hated me cutting them when he was a puppy. Made us both happier when he started doing them himself.

Teach him to clean up his own poops too. Now, you’ve got something!

You are on to something , he's a two to three a day pooper so plenty of practice material 😋

One of my yellow Labs from years back went through a phase of eating poop.... I did NOT teach her before y'all even ask . Old wives tale is they're lacking nutrition ... in reality they are just being dawgs ... most never do.
