				Seems John Prine's "Muhlenberg County"

Took a big hit in these tornados. I'm glad in a way he didn't see it. We feel for all the people who were hurt by all this. Terrible thing to happen anytime, but right before Christmas must be heart breaking.

During an interview, Prine told the story of the first time he sang this song to his dad.

Let's just say his dad had to leave the room because of all the dust in the air.

			J. Prine's death was the only celebrity passing that really hit me hard.

same. having a hard time listening to him these days. i felt the same about jj cale. took a few years before i could enjoy the music without getting sad about it. seeing john was a very moving experience. he sang and played great and with incredible humor. my only complaint was that he didn’t play all night long

Wow, that's a huge open pit. I noticed there's a John Prine Blvd. in nearby Drakesboro.

Interesting you named John Prine and J.J. Cale in the same post. Both favorites I only discovered in the last few years. I was also devastated by John Prine's death. I was hoping to one day see him live. One of the first celebrities that caught CV fresh in Europe before it was widespread in the US. I know what I'll listen to this afternoon.

I was lucky enough to see Prine six times over the years. I caught on to him very early on probably late seventies. Saw him in Canada those six times. Each concert was a treat.

Terrific guy, really great. He caught ME early on with Dear Abbey, especially the line "we was sitting in the back seat, just shooting the breeze, with her hair up in curlers and her pants to her knees". How could you not love that? |
