Apple tablet browser update?

My wife uses a tablet, a lot, and got a message saying she needed to update her browser in order to see certain things like photos etc on one of her quilting/fabric web sites. It had a link to help find out what her browser actually was/is as I have no clue when it comes to Apple tablets.
This is what clicking on that link came up with:

Is there an update to be had and where would I find it?

Ignore that.

Nothing like that is ever looking out for you or your best interests.

I would say "don't click the link" but it's too late. Probably no harm done. They are probably just trying to drive you to a site for more clicks or something.

If you have a browser update, that's going to come through the Apple App Store, not "whatismybrowser.com"

That's what I'm asking Steve. How do I know if there is an update? She hasn't gotten anything from Apple saying one is needed or available.

Apple may be different, but my Kindle tablets and Chrome laptop all update automatically when the power is restarted. It gets it ready while your using it and installs it on restart.

Go to the app store

If there are updates, I believe there will be an update button, but here's the official Apple process.

By default, Apple devices update automatically. It'll download and install at least daily.

You can turn that behavior off, but most folks shouldn't.

So you usually don't have to worry, "is my stuff up to date," because it always is. That's probably the case with Scott's wife's iPad.

Apple devices will have a red dot on the setting icon when an update is available. Sometimes you'll have to go into settings and then general for it to find the update. I sometimes read about an iOS update online before I see the red dot on my setting icon. But you're never getting a pop-up (that's legit) on Safari.

The red dot on settings is generally only for IOS updates or out of space or things like that. Application updates will usually be via a red dot, possibly with a number) on the App Store.

Thanks Steve and Rick. I'll have to look into those sites and see what's up with her tablet.
In the mean time, I'm trying to hook up her new printer to both her computers.
Is it "OK" to hook two computers up to the same printer via a USB cable that's got a split connector on it.
Like this one:

The end that disappears off to the right has a USB connector on it.
I'm just not sure what happens to the power part of the connections.

Why use cables? Put them all on the same wifi network.

I don't want her old computer to see the internet at all.

I don't think that's going to work (but I'm not positive).

But you can do exactly what you want with a USB hub.

printer connected to hub, hub connected to PC1, hub connected to PC2.

Is the printer wifi capable? If yes, connect it by USB to the isolated computer and use wifi to ,print from the other one.

Yep, that would work, and probably more conveniently if the wife's other computer is a laptop or moves around.

Well it would work IF the wi-fi weren't disabled when you enable the LAN wired feature.
Spent all afternoon on the floor trying to get this thing to work. Got it to print on one computer but not the other. Tried running it thru the USB hub and it'll work on one but not the other. She claims our old printer would work on both. I believe her as I could print on it using my computer from the living room. About ready to box it up and take it back/return it.

One way to find out.
Isn't that splitter basically a 2-prong USB hub?
I'd think it should work as long as one computer is off and the printer isn't seeing two inputs.
(IDK maybe it might work with both)

The old computer might need a driver update to recognize the new printer.
Get one from a reputable source and transfer with a memory stick.
That's what I had to do with an old offline computer and a newer Canon printer.

As already noted, that browser update message is complete and total bull****.

Legit updates on iOS / Apple products will always be in the form of a system message.

Stuff like that is how people get their accounts compromised.

Here's a fun thing to try, you'll be shown 10 emails and need to decide which are fake and which are real.

It's not always obvious what is and what isn't which is why your default should be to treat everything as a scam.

See how well you do and report back.

Not really me who needs the training, more my wife. I've tried as best I can but I don't sit there and supervise her while she's surfing or what ever on the web.

Nice, I found myself being suspicious since I couldn't hover over links or pull up the properties of the sending addresses, but (no great surprise)

I'm going to send this to my family.
