Open hunting season in the NHL (& other happenings)
Vigneault fired by the Flyers.
Green and Benning fired by the Canucks. Other happenings: Rask is doing practice duty for the Bruins while Ullmark is out sick. Poink gets 2 games for kneeing. Speeza having an in-person meeting for kneeing Poink. Robin Lehner says won't play in Olympics (I expect more announcements coming). And most odd of all: Tom Wilson scores a goal (his 100th) instead of trying to cripple an opponent!

In the "what have you done for me lately" catagory:
Anton Khudobin gets put on waivers after carrying the Stars on his back to the Cup finals in 2019-2020 and had a respectable .905 Saves %, 2.54 GAA and pitching 3 shutouts in 2020-2021. Ben Bishop decides to retire due to knee problems. Cary Price is still MIA with the Habs. I think its time to wonder if he is done.

The 'hockey gods' must be in a festive giving mood - Canucks down 3 zip in the first period then score 4 unanswered against a pretty good 'Jackets' (might've been a tired & under-manned) team.
It's a nice & welcome change from the first few weeks of the season. Enjoying it for as long as it lasts Cheers JB

I can't speak for anyone here, but I find myself in the early onset stages of some very queasy feelings & apprehensions re the omicron variant & its possible/probable impact on the remaining NHL season. The ballers & their fans are, or soon will be, experiencing the identical quandary. Present discussions between parties (public & private) & all others concerned to date, are addressing reduced attendance numbers at the arenas & the possibility of another 'bubble season'. Participation of NHL players in the Olympic games is becoming a less likely occurrence due to quarantine timeline issues & concerns. None of this augurs well.
