As a retirement gift for myself, I’m buying weed

I haven’t smoked in over 3 decades. I don’t even know what or how to buy. I just want the smallest quantity of stuff that won’t make me paranoid (if that variety even exists). Anyway, it’s legal here in California so I’m treating myself. If you’re in the know, please give advice on what to purchase and quantity. Thanks!

You won't need much.. a hit these days is like smoking hash back in the day.

Not my thing with the new stuff. In my opinion they ruined it making it so strong.

Report back on how it goes for you.

Talk to the "budtender". Tell him what kind of a buzz you want, and what you don't want (paranoia is the number one 'don't want").

When pot was legalized in Oregon a few years ago, I did the same as you, gave it a go. (Used to partake pretty seriously back in high school.). It didn't take long with the new weed before I decided that it wasn't for me. I really just don't like being altered.

Stuff is much stronger these days. Just remember Sativa is an active high, Indica is a couch potato high. Hybrid will give you the best of both.

Stay away from vaping, not good for the lungs. Buy a few different types in small quantity and find what you like. As Herr Oberst said, things that were fun as a kid lose their luster in advanced age. I will partake sometimes for a concert but not an everyday (or even every week) thing for me. All things in moderation.

I blew out my back in July. My SIL has a card here in Fla.

I have a bulging disk that I aggravated carrying 2 cases of water into the house. By the second day I was in so much pain I could not even move.

My SIL told my wife to come over and got some "medicine" she mixed up some pain killer with something that was supposed to help me concentrate.

I took two long hits of this medical crap, about 15 minutes later I was on my living room floor melting into the carpet, the pain was completely gone... until I relaxed then the bulging disk hit a vertebrae and boom!! I would jump out of my coma and gasp in pain... only to return back into my coma.

I slept 2 hours then woke up and remembered it was a work day, I needed to get back to the office.

I jumped in my truck and drove the 2 miles back to the office, once there, I thought to myself, I probably should not have driven, I was still pretty out there.

Then a client calls asks for a meeting in 30 minutes, say sure!! Because I am not all there.

He comes in, he is giving me instructions on changes he needs on plans that I am doing in real time.. I am not really there but I am.. hard to explain, I wondered if he noticed how blasted I was.

He never said a word, we made the changes, I printed the plans he was on his way.

30 minutes later my wife arrives at the office she spends 4 days a week there handling accounts.

I was in this really wild space, I was super focused and super relaxed, it was pretty amazing. My ADHD brain was actually functioning very clearly.

I was banging through work and it seemed like time was standing still. I would finish a job and figure it had to have taken me 30 minutes, I look at the clock and only 10 minutes passed. WTF?

My wife comments to me at one point, as she is sitting across my desk from me, wow! I love the relaxed energy coming from you right now.

Seems on a normal day me stress winds her up and makes her feel anxious, she loved stoned Jim, I was really relaxed and laid back with no stress anywhere in the room.

I have considered getting my medical card here in Florida, finding out WTF my SIL gave me and getting more.

The industry I am in (Land Surveying) is a magnet for stoners. Every dame one I have worked with is so unmotivated and just does not get nearly the work done that a non-user does.

So I have been biased about it and skeptical that is something I should mess with.

That experience, while extreme, opened my eyes up some. I can see small amounts being very helpful to someone like me, that has a lot of trouble focusing and is easily distracted.

I have no input as to what to get, I was talk to the dude at the counter they are the experts.

Enjoy.

When you smoke for the first time take ONE hit and wait about 10 to 15 minutes to see how it effects you.

I have never tried marijuana or any other drug (except alcohol). In my line of work, i can be called in to have a urinalysis at any time so I'll never try anything until I'm retired. Once I'm retired I probably won't feel like trying it, but you never know! I cannot tolerate the smell of weed as it make me nauseous. I remember that hashish smelled wonderful when I knew people who smoked that. Is hashish legal now?

Delta 8 is like Indica

Delta 10 sativa

It's THC derived from hemp cannaboids.

Legal in 30 states mainly because legislation only called out the Delta 9 found in marijuana.

Delta 8 takes a while to hit, especially the gummies. Gummies can take 45 minutes to kick in but can also last 8 hours.

Find a CDB or vape shop, they'll all carry it.

Whats the worst thing that can happen? Eat the entire fridge and pantry and wake up in a post weed/ carbohydrate hangover.

This! The buying of weed experience is now like going into the Apple store... There will be an eager and friendly "budtender" there who seriously dreams of helping out people in this exact scenario. There will be hundreds of varieties and many ways to actually consume, including products and methods which will be perfect for "just enough to feel it" style consumption. Be honest with them about what you want and don't want and you will be happy with the result.

I have lots of friends who tried it recently.

Several have (seriously) called 911 as they freaked out. It is apparently somewhat common to over indulge in the weed.

While I am curious, I have not partaken. Yet.

Do buy it from a legitimate source. "Drug dealers" often lace the dope with some other substances that are VERY bad for you. So their stuff is better than the other dealers.

LOL .... same here . I think I've had a total of about 12 beers over the past couple of years too .... and that was half a day at the beach in college. It's all about tolerance imo.... a couple of Yuenglings and I'm buzzed now.... but I don't drive. I was never impaired with weed .... mentally or physically ... just like a cigarette and that's the truth. Quit those too as I only chain smoked 'em with beer back when.

The things I used to do ...

Weed .... the difference today is that ALL of it is potent, but really no more so (imo) than the VERY best from 1980, but most available back then simply wasn't the good stuff. Northern Lights today is the same as Northern Lights from 3-4 decades ago. Hawaiian, Thai (not the opiated stick though) etc. were VERY potent back then, and the two hits I had of San Francisco medicinal on a blues cruise in the mid-90s still stands out. The "good schit" from Northern CA, etc. has always been readily available here for over 3-4 decades if one had sources (and now it's grown indoors virtually everywhere also). Those daze are long gone for me now, but I smoked chronically and daily, for decades .... then I simply quit ... just because. I've never been in a legal store .... visit one, ask, tell them what you seek, and don't over do it .... "one hit schit" initially until you know the effects on YOU. Stay away from edibles until you know YOU. That's my advice as a former chronic smoker most of my adult life.... will I ever drink another beer or take another toke?

I might

"Work hard... play hard" .... I did both for a long time and now I don't no mo'...

I have no regrets.... I was born in 60 fwiw.... life changes... it's 2am and I shouldn't be home yet ... but I'm wide awake after sleeping a few hours ....

Wish I had a hit ... or 6

Not really .... everybody is different... I know I am .

BTW ... had a LOT of friends who did the same as I .... for decades. None of us do anymore .... we just keep folks off our grass.... errr lawn.... now git!

Well .... you asked..... hope this helps

LOL!! Those days are long gone. Now I stare at a Win10 Tablet as it tells me where to move via either the GPS or the robot.

I'm taking this thread off topic . I'm having three properties surveyed next week, and moving some boundary lines around. Two are smaller lots, and one is several acres with a lot of it in the woods, etc. A neighboring backside property planted bamboo decades ago to block their view of an unsightly power line tower .... on "my side" too, but that's OK. Well.... it spread .... vash knows . It's now a dense thicket on a power line right-of-way that blocks a clear line of sight between two of the property corners hundreds of feet apart. Is that gonna be an issue with the survey next week?

LOL .... yer other left .

I think I'm getting a bargain .... all three done, new corners, and maps for around $3.5K and mebbe a bit more.

Whadda you guys think?

I agree that weed will be one of the things I take back up in retirement, but not in smoke form (I have enough lung problems)....i'm thinking edibles, or gummies.

It's been 35 years since I touched the stuff, but see the benefits that CBD oils do for my wife.
