Maybe I'm looking for something that doesn't exist
 

A memory saver that doesn't have you buying an extra battery that requires charging. One that simply plugs into a 110 outlet, converts current to 12V, and also has a USB port plug in.

Everything I've found so far requires having a 12V battery of some sort as a power source. Just doesn't make sense for a non pro to have to have that...

(edit) I can see where a shop that changes batteries would need something like this.

But it has it's own internal rechargable 12V battery...which can go bad in about the same time as a car battery...

I have one of the 9V "savers" with a simple pigtail that plugs into a lighter port...it's worthless.

You want something that provides 12V to a car? Wouldn't that be a charger, trickle charger, maintainer? Just hook them to the battery cables. Or if you knew that you needed super low power, you could even use one or make/find one that plugged into the cigarette lighter.

Should have been more clear...sorry. Hope my edit 'splained things better.

What if you made your own?

All you need is a 12v power pack and cigarette lighter adaptor.

1. Switch ignition on
2. Plug in and switch on home made "memory saver"
3. Replace battery

Sort of what I was thinking, but without the cigarette lighter plug. Somebody out there should make a device that plugs into 110 household current...with some sort of "magic box" in the middle that has another cord exiting with a USB port plug providing 12V to the car during battery changes.

(edit) DUH...senior moments apologies. I meant OBDII Port! Want something to plug in there that supplies 12V to the car's memory banks while removing and replacing a battery and without having to buy another device containing a battery

USB plug? Really? Don't think so - USB specs only go over 5v on USB PD and then you are still limited on actual draw, although it may work with something like a laptop battery.

You are 100% correct...senior moments...I meant OBDII port...we oldsters get confused with all these initials devices.

No worries.

Just get one of the plugs that has the lighter end on it, snip the end, and wire it onto a appropriate wall wart. Consider a fuse in-line just in case.

Not sure how long this cord is but if you have two vehicles why not plug the plug end into 2nd car and OBD plug into your car? Or if not long enough buy two and splice together?

Yeah..was thinking of something like the second one...maybe hook to Cindy's Toyota.
If it's cords not long enough, maybe another set of jumper cables. Would have to rig some kind of insulation to make sure + and -
never contact each other tho. One spark could blow fuses,and who knows what else...

Sigh...might be cheaper to just buy a motorcycle battery...

I saw one on Amazon that just uses a standard 9 volt battery we all use. It plugs into the OBD2 port on the car, and keeps all the programming for windows, radios presets, and the computer settings. You just change the battery, and then remove it. The ad claimed it was more reliable than the cigarette lighter port for maintaining the cars settings.

Years ago when my wife had a Mercedes the battery died. I replaced it and then we had to go to the dealer and get raped for four hundred bucks for them to plug it into the computer and reset everything. That was one reason we dumped Mercedes, that dealership.
