SuperFetch was killing my PC.
So I killed it instead. Had my hard drive at 100% almost constantly, now it fluctuates between 0 and 15%. I was ready to chuck this laptop and buy a new one.
Superfetch is a standard Windows feature that preloads the apps you use most frequently. By loading these programs in advance, Service Host Superfetch aims to speed up your PC. Maybe I'll treat this PC to an ssd and see if I get another 5 years out of it. |
I remember when I first read about superfetch. I get it. I also remember when you could optimize your hard drive and the optimizer (can't remember the name of the process or the app) would put your OS and apps at the beginning of the HDD and your docs at the back of the bus.
I don't think I ever enabled superfetch. Glad you figure out the problem and fixed it. |
I will have to check that out next time I am at my MIL's house. She has a computer and because I am the geek, I am her tech support. She is 88 and literally breaks into a sweat at the idea of having to do anything more than turn it on, and do email or her few other programs.
Her hard drive will run at 100% of a few hours when first powered up. It is a computer that I built for her with Windows 7 long ago, and she really needs to replace it. |
i should have named my dog "Superfetch".

Three different tabs all playing music and ads at the same time makes my computer and mind blink for an extended time, aka similar to dead.
Add in pop-ups. Suure MacroSuck. That really heats my engine and makes me want to buy something. And we are back in the 90's. |
Superfetch came back. Windows 8. Hard drive usage was back at 100%, slowing down pc. I had to kill it again.
Friggin microsoft. |
