Thing Are Really Getting Bad, No Hot Wheels.

Went to 3 stores this week, and I always check out Hot-Wheels to add to my collection.
I've been collecting these at around 5 years old, and I am sure I'm not the only one who collection deposit bottles, .05 & .10 each when you cash them in, then on Sundays, after collecting while walking to and from school, I'd sneak to Zayre, (it required crossing a few major roads, and I wasn't supposed to go that far from home or to crossing major roads) to but Hot-Wheels:cool:
Well, there appears to be a shortage of Hot-Wheels as wallyworld, target and another major retailer, all have bare shelves. This is the first time in my 51 years of collecting these little cares that I have seen the shelves absolutely empty

I'm just starting to realize how many I have as I have started packing them up.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1640368635.jpg

How do the Hot-Wheels situations look in your areas?

Why are we in this handbasket?

Where are we going?

fastfredracing 12-24-2021 10:24 AM

So bummed, same thing here . I just went out last minute shopping, and always like to toss a sleeve, or at least a few cool cars in each kids stockings. Not a one to be found anywhere .

Sort of the same here in NJ. Some stores have some cars. My local Wallyworld looks like Byron's post. Hobby Lobby had some a larger Wally's had a few.

No Hotwheels or french fries, not sure if life is worth living?

Rusty Heap 12-24-2021 11:39 AM

I've got all my well used and played with red-line hot wheels from the 60's and 70's if anyone is a collector. I've got a shoe box full. Send me a pm and I can send some photos.

Only place that has them around here are the dollar general stores. but they dont have premiums so its still a bummer. I did find some transports at target last time i was there but man they are expensive and hard to display

Dang youngins ... .05 & .10 per bottle .... that's lottery winnings $$$! I remember when it increased 50% .... from .02 to .03 .... I was gonna get rich fast :D. People were litterbugs back then too .... cha-ching...

Merry Christmas Byron .... and to all you guys :)!

(Slightly off thread topic) I remember when they upped it to three cents from two cents and a 16oz bottle of cream soda was 17 cents at Lawson's. Heaven. Only six bottles needed to buy the pop on a hot ass July day.

Not fan of HOT WHEELS,preferred Matchbox cars, more realistic!

Funny, I just watched a show I'd recorded on History Channel about the Toys that built America. This episode talked about Matchbox cars and how Mattel took over the sales lead. Matchbox eventually went belly up but now Mattel owns them.

The original Redlines from the 60's are cool. I don't collect HotWheels but do have an unopened, still in the blister-pack... a 1968 issue of the Ford MKIV. Someday when I decide to start getting rid of
unused stuff just hanging around in the attic, I will sell it. It is worth a few bucks now.

Sooner or later 12-25-2021 11:10 AM

I got 3 from Rika in the gift exchange.

Well, at least it's comforting to know that there are still boys that play with toy cars and trucks, rather then gender neutral barbie dolls.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if most of the buyers of those are us grown-up dudes! :D

.

Who else had the hot wheels case, the one shaped like a tire?

HobieMarty 12-25-2021 01:15 PM

I didn't have the Hot Wheels tire car carrier, but I have this one. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...170cafb290.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5c663fce80.jpg

I was discussing the HotWheels shortage with a friend of mine. Her theory is that HotWheels are the perfect item for "bulk gifting" - IE toys for tots, or office gift barrels for the needy. Cost is cheap and the recipient gender is (pretty) obvious, thus the shelves have been picked absolutely clean. That made a lot of sense to me, and it was something I wouldn't have considered.
