Bought a 72 s sporto targa in conga green for 5 k, sold it 3 weeks later for 12.5k. It needed a total restoration .
I thought I hit the lottery . Wish I had played the long game on that one .

Back in the late 80's I was deciding between a 911T and a 911S - the S was $1500 more but I just couldn't come up with that kinda cash.

Back in the 70's, friend Roger K. offered to swap his RS lightweight for my 1972 911S. The lightweight ran great, but being a German Hillclimb veteran, it was cosmetically rough...cracks in the splitter, lots of rock chips, small dents in the thin metal of the trunk lid, etc. I really did think about it, but decided no..

Still, considering it now, no real huge regret.

Had a chance at a 928 with 60K miles in great condition.
Very good price..should have done it.

A really nice '88 CE coupe ... test drove it and would have bought it but the person in front of me had dibs. Fell in love with the color and the 6 month search for a nice G50 Carrera continued....

Another CE appeared on Rennlist two weeks later... an even better one tho' it cost 33% more... minty nice!

Helped a guy push a mid-60s VW van onto a side street. Decent condition from appearances.
He was frustrated and offered to sell it for $500 on the spot.
Probably something as stupid as points or a fuel filter.

My dad bought a 1966 911 from maine (1965 build year). He got many years of miles and smiles from it.

Ironically, I didn't snatch it up when I had the chance. It was the car that got away from me. I don't give a rats arse about the value. Just to have my dad's car back would be nice.

I was 18 (1982ish) and driving my 68 Corvette in the SCCA autocross series.
A fellow competitor, and I really wasnt any compaction for him, had a Intermeccanica Italia Targa.
They built one Targa a year for three years.
He had two of them.
He suggested that i sell my Corvette and buy his other Targa.

I’m jelly with the could’ve…would’ve…should’ve stories. I don’t think I’ve ever had the opportunity to buy something that took off.

Edit: maybe the closest was a 69 Mustang I bought from the original owner around 89. It was a plain Jane red on red with a 351 Windsor. Bought it for $500 and sold it for $5000.

I think it was 1974. Grady Clay had a 1500 Speedster he wanted 5 grand for. I’d just got out of the army and couldn’t swing it. I still dream about it.

In 1979, a friend called to let me know that there was a Porsche for sale note stuck on his company's bulletin board. So I went to see it, and it was a 1955 Porsche Continental (pre A) cabriolet.
All there, very original, and very solid, but it needed everything. The price was $700. I was recently married and my new bride, The Fair Godzilla, got wind of this through the wives network
and noted a firm Nyet. And that was that.

My now ex wife often moaned about the money I spent on silly sports cars...

But that didn't stop her lawyer trying to get a piece of my 78 SC ;)

That's when I got into my "Look what followed me home" mode.
