A word to those who lost friends and family in the year

This can be a tough time of year. The "firsts" (holiday, anniversary, birthday) are the hardest. Be encouraged a lot of folks (including ones you don't even know) are praying for you and the family. Try to remember the good times.

Praying for you to find strength and peace in this season of life.
Shalom

Thank you for your kind thoughts and words. Although the loss of a loved one still leaves a hole in your life, the pain and sorrow do diminish. Again, Thank You!

Thank you. Lost my Dad this year. The man who taught me everything. I miss him every day but I know he lives on inside me. Happy Christmas to all

I remember when I lost my dad. It was one of the saddest days of my life.

The lady from the post office phoned and said "You left him here, he's fine." Darn

I heard a quote that was you die twice. Once when you (actually) die, and the second time is when your name is said for the last time.

Well said and thank you Joe!

I lost my big brother a little over a year ago, he always gave me an Ansel Adams calendar for Christmas.
My sweet wife has taken over that tradition... bittersweet and emotional moment when I open that gift.

Take care of yourselves, I too offer deep condolences to those impacted by loss

For me, it has been White House Christmas Ornaments. We even have the originals from 1981 and 1982. Long story.

My Dad gave them all to me after my Mom passed and then, after he retired bought them for my family every year until he died. We have them all and use them to decorate the house, our house.

We have continued the tradition as well.

Makes me happy.

I lost my Dad earlier this year as well. He was battling metastasized prostate cancer but ironically his second vaccine shot was the final straw… he clotted up in the legs and lungs and was gone 3 weeks to the day after the injection. In hindsight not passing with bone cancer pain was a blessing but it did not seem like it at the time.
He was a musician, a scholar, a deeply religious man and incredibly self-sufficient and capable in terms of building or repairing anything. That said his humility was perhaps his most remarkable trait… he really WAS the smartest man in the room but would be the last person to admit it, or even think it, and he certainly never acted like it.
His wake was attended by over 400 people including the archbishop of NY in the midst of NY Covid lockdowns. His loss is almost incalculable to those he faithfully assisted, listened to, and gently led by his peerless example.
Thank you Joe for your thoughts. It just got quite dusty here.

Thank you! Great post, the likes of which rarely seen on here. Well done.

Lost one good friend, another work mentor/good friend and my "uncle" Ted this year (not an unlce by definition, but he was like a second dad for all of my 52 years.)

Cheers
