Eating my words....Ford Super Duty

For years i've felt Ford to was out to lunch on truck build quality, poorly executed tech and pretty much everything other than exterior design. Have said i'd never own a beer can truck.

Well I loved my Sequoia but wife has one as well and once you've had a pickup it's hard to live without one. Trade in prices are flat out stupid so i decided to get back to a pickup. Drove Toyota pickups for 16 or 17 years and LOVE them. Well Toyota has absolutely **** the bed on the 22 and dealers know plenty of Tundra loyalists agree. As a result '21 Tundras are very hard to come by and nearly impossible to get for sticker price. Seems worse than covid alone is causing in the market overall.

So what else is out there that doesn't have turbos, auto stop/start and cylinder deactivation?

Answer-

Old fashioned big block 7.3 with 430hp and 475 lb ft of torque. Way out of my comfort zone here but with this goofy market i've got plenty of room to try it on for size and trade out if i don't like it. Made $6k on the Sequoia after one year and 22k miles. Got this for under invoice (special order).

What a nutty world we are living in!

7.3 gas eh

I would take a 6.2l ford gas instead. Proven reliability.
Long term keep?

This is the F250 Tremor package. Factory 35" Duratracs, locking rear, ls front, 4.30 gearing, 10spd auto, crawl mode, etc. Meant to be a competitor to the Power Wagon but really is not. It's still fairly stiffly sprung and has 15k tow and 2800lb payload capacity. Power wagon is something like 10k tow and 1300 payload, basically half ton capacities on a 3/4 ton truck.

The Taco is a much better truck than the Tundra.

The only reason to buy a ram is for the Cummins engine....

Nothing about that brand is long term (and often short term) reliability.

I had a Ford van from '89 to '05, then an '03 F350, 7.3L frin '05 to '2020. The truck was great, but I couldn't wait to get another van. So now I have a 2020 T350 passenger van with the back two seats removed. I can generally carry, haul, tow anything I could with the truck, & everything is enclosed. Sofar it gets 19/20 mpg. making it cheaper to fuel than the truck, & it puts out 310 hp./400 lb.ft. from a 3.5L, Ecoboost V6. I'm happy with that combo.

My F-150 3.6 L twin turbo 4WD truck is like driving in my living room and the mid range throttle response is awesome. Tow/Haul mode transmission braking is very helpful too. Be able to back up the car trailer using the steering wizard and looking like I know what I'm doing is priceless.

Bought the 2020 Sequoia TRD Pro brand new for 57k. Dealer gave me $63k. KBB was even higher for trade but selling outright would've cost me sales tax on the new truck. The used vehicle market is completely out of control right now. Has been for a year or so i think.

i couldnt find the door handle fast enough. he was yelling at the back of my head something about 72 month (96 month?) financing... i was shocked. but what a truck!!

I did read lots of good about the 6.2 but if i'm gonna live with a HD truck then might as well go big! Didn't want to pay for the diesel and will never tow heavy enough to need it.

Coming home from the dealer on highways at 65-75mph i got 12.3. Now that is not yet broken in but i don't see reports of much better.

Sequoia would sometimes see 17 highway. Around town it was maybe 14 or so.

Love the Ford!

Your Sequoia was the right color and options...I am not surprised at all.

I just got off a three day trip in my 2015 Tundra. I can't imagine it gets better with another truck, a newer truck. I really hope this is the last of the "bigger" trucks for me.

If not, I'll look at them all.

Berettafan has ten. Count 'em. Ten.

I gots me six in my '10 Grand Caravan. I'm embarrassed about it but I keep it on the down low.

I've owned three, (currently have the 2020 my 4th) my neighbor traded in his Tundra for a Taco and three more neighbors have the Taco.

My previous one ran for 14 years.

I know a guy with a new 7.3L and the 10 speed and he has been happy. Sounds like it gets a little worse mileage than my 2012 6.7L Powerstroke F350. My LC with the 5.7L gets worse gas mileage than my F350 as well from what I can tell so far in the 7,000 miles I have driven it.

What does the interior look like? I have been very happy with how mine has held up and gets used pretty hard hunting and camping.
