Jaguar XJ13 Victory By Design

I used to love watching this series "Victory By Design" when it came on the "Speed Channel". This is such a beautiful car!!!

Great vid and yes an awesome car. Way ahead of its time. RCR makes a replica (they made most of the cars in Ford vs Ferrari) Not sure of the build quality but if it’s anything like their 917 replica, it ain’t bad. I visited them a few years back about their 917 and was very impressed with what and how they do their cars.

I've rewatched that video many times over the years just to hear that engine.

I've rewatched that video many times over the years just to hear Alain de Cadenet talk about the cars. He has a knack.

We should start a separate thread on Alain de Cadenet. It took a little while, but I got the full set of his Victory By Design shows on DVD off eBay. I'm probably missing a couple now from lending them out and not getting them back. Great show, as well as his Renaissance Man series, which there's almost no evidence of.

Awesome!!! Glad y'all liked the video. I found some of the episodes on YouTube but they won't expand to full screen. Victory by Design is one of my all time favorite series and I always liked listening to Alain De Cadenet explain things in great detail.

Glorious!

But why do I seem to recall the original car(s) was/were lost in the factory fire?

I mentioned this before. I met him in the security line in Heathrow when he was heading to Pebble Beach. Maybe 2006? Talked for two or three minutes.

I had read and asked him if they were going to come out with a High Def version of the VBD series and he said they were working on it. I have never run across one.

It wasn’t burnt up, it was crashed and nearly destroyed. They put what was left of it in storage and years later an outside company rebuilt it for jaguar.

I have that entire VBD series on DVD, it’s excellent.

There are several videos out there featuring De Cadenet, documenting things like his private exploits at Le Mans over the years. I think it’s safe to say he lived a pretty interesting life.

I've been searching for the complete set. I have Amazon Prime Video and they show that the series is on there but when you try to watch, there is a message that states video is unavailable.
It was a very well made series, great information about the cars and development, spirited driving, and excellent camerawork.

Amazon Prime rotates programs in and out of the schedule. It may come back.

Nothing says "Mate with me" more than a man driving a family rig who's careful with his money.
