What is your "G Rated" fantasy? And what is holding you back?
Vash's thread on life choices made me think about this.
What are my life fantasies? What is holding me back? How to make these happen? Dream List: Home in Italy Travel the world Photograph street art and street personalities Dirt Bike ride Fly fish Hike/Explore the outdoors Hold ups: I have a child in High School I have a dog that I can't leave for long times I have a job that is demanding I have a wife that is fearful of change I have a monthly mortgage that hurts cashflow I have a disabled child that I can't leave for long times I (will shortly) have a disabled MIL that will need attention Not sure of any hard answers regarding above. I will say that it is a little therapeutic to write this down. Never done this before. |

All I want to do is canoe down a particular river. But it's a drowning river, so I'm leaving it till last.
Everything else I've done or still do. |

I would say that any thing in my list (don't have one, but could come up with one) and your list too, comes down to money. If you've got enough money, then just about any and all of that can be done.
This may be a narrow view, but if you consider 2 columns, money and responsibilities, the two kind of work against each other. When you are younger with fewer responsibilities, you can probably make things happen with less money. As you get older and your responsibilities increase (like your list of hold ups) then the need for additional money to do things also increases. Maybe that's a narrow view. Maybe creative thinking allows you to still do things with responsibilities with less money, but I think it is probably much more difficult. I don't know that I've got any big dreams. I could probably come up with a list of wants 10 miles long, so maybe those are the "fantasy" part of things. Travel extensively - check Take lots of photos - check etc... (the list is only limited by imagination, and I've got a pretty good imagination. And in the hopes that I beat the inevitable (despite your G rated stipulation) ![]() Come on, you knew someone would eventually post it.

"I'm pretty sure if I had a million bucks, I could hook that up!" It might take more than a million for some of your stuff, especially where the Navy is concerned. There is a place where you can fly a plane in a dogfight. It used to be in Houston, but it's moved. And I think there's a couple/few places where you can drive various race cars, including dragsters. You could probably get close to the jet from a carrier experience in a dragster and then get the aircraft portion of the experience I think this is the place that used to be based out of Houston. https://aircombat.com/ This place looks similar https://www.skycombatace.com/ Dragster stuff https://driveadragster.com/all-experiences/ I did something like that back when COTA opened and had the first USGP there. They had 3 seat F1 cars from 2008 or 2009. It was very impressive. It was actually so cool, that I did it a second time.

Used to be my G rated fantasies were money prevented. Today? Health prevented...
Always wanted to drive the full length of the longest continuous hwy of the USA. Now I know I never will.. road food could screw up my diabetic diet big time...that and the disruptions of routine. Guys, do it before the health problems prevent it. Bucket list was a great movie, but realistic it wasn't.

id like to get into wheel to wheel ice racing.
but currently a few things are holding me up: no room for a dedicated ice racer maneuvering a trailer in my driveway during winter is kind of a non-starter. |

This is what is on the current "Air Combat USA" site. Quote:
I actually had a coworker that did it here. When it was here, you could 1 go fly a plane where they have you do acrobatic maneuvers 2 simulate a dog fight (maybe against one of their other pilots?) 3 sign up and dog fight against a buddy My coworker went and did a dogfight against his brother. Still, probably much cheaper and easier than getting a pilots license and eventually getting enough time and money to get the sort of license and plane that can do the stuff that they do.

I'd like to spend a couple months at a beach house in warm weather, kite surfing, windsurfing, boating and fishing. What is preventing it now is my daughter in high school, and finding a house to rent without breaking the bank. With COVID, I may be able to do it while working remotely...

I want to take a short trip to the ghost town, "Bodie" to take pictures and just get away. If I do, then I'll post pictures in the pic thread. Holding me back? I literally have a 3 month window but have too much going on. After June, I'm working flat out and can't go anywhere until January.

Follow F1 and stay for a week in each city on the calendar.
" Indycar " " " " " " " MotoGP " " " " " " Travel the US in an Earthroamer, camping and cycling in different states. Money in bushels is needed for these endeavors. My money came in pecks.

Vash - the reason I learned to ride a dirtbike this year (age 55) was to RIDE ACROSS MONGOLIA. I was inspired by that idiot/genius at C-90 adventures. I would seriously discuss a proposal to ride this. Should we talk?
Paul - HWY 20 is walking distance from your home. You can do this. I suspect that we can even make a "Pelican Chain" across the US to offer you a nightly warm bed and appropriate food for your trip. Anybody? |

-I would love to build my own drag car, or autocross car, and go racing.
-I want to spend Winters in Florida under the sun, fishing in my kayak. -I would love to do some bike trails/paths in scenic country. -I want to be done with the corporate rat race, and piddle around in my shop. -I want to visit all the national parks, and spend some time hiking. My low heart, and lung function dictate many things in my life, My wife would not want to be in Florida, and I don't seem to have enough time, or money to do the other items on my list.....We also have 4 dogs in the house, and many farm animals that need constant attention. Being lazy holds me back the most.
I've done most of the things I've wanted to do and still do: raced bicycles, motorcycles, karts and cars, traveled the world, built motorcycle and car engines, done major home renovations, drive a Porsche every day, etc. Sure it would be nice if my cars were Ferraris rather than Porsches, my vacations were at a Four Seasons rather than an Airbnb, and my home renovations were on a lake/beach front villa rather than a little suburban home but overall I consider myself very fortunate. Now if only my wife was so easy to please....

I want to go to the sand dunes out west and go dune buggying maybe cross country with one one of my old jeeps and the toys in tow. But I dont have a buggy or anything that would be very fun in the dunes. Also like to go jeeping in colorado on the way. Black bear pass and other cool places. And Id have to convince my family to come and that it would be fun because they wouldnt let me go by myself. and im sure they would rather not. So its probably going to have to wait till im old and by myself. And by then everything will surely be closed and buggys illegal
