Win 7 Laptop Advice - COM Surrogate has Stopped Working Error Message

Hey all, help please. I have an older laptop running Win 7. When viewing my photos in full view pane, then arrowing forward too quickly, I get the message: Com Surrogate has stopped working with the progress wheel, then the view pane closes out.

I have the most current version of video driver (I believe), ran chkdisc / scndsk and rebooted this morning. Since doing that I noticed picture / library load speed is quicker than before, but when opening to full size, then arrowing forward, it still happens.

I followed online suggestions so far, but now it seems the next suggestion is to "Add dllhost.exe to the DEP Exception".

Thanks in advance.;)

Wow, Win 7. I remember that from 12 years ago. I assume you have tried to search for the term: Com Surrogate has stopped working. There is always someone out there that had that issue before.

Good luck with finding the solution.

I think the fix is either a computer and operating system from this century or slow down on the scrolling.

Try going back to another video driver, or if you're using the microsoft supplied driver, try the vendor's driver, or vice versa. I'd tell you to get a newer computer, but I'm also still using a 12 year old laptop on Win 7. It has a 17" screen and I can't see myself spending the cash for another one.

No, doesn't make any difference with a particular folder / photos

Would additional RAM help?

I went for my Annual physical last Friday. While waiting in the exam room for the Dr, I looked over at the computer monitor for that station and it had a Windows 7 screensaver. I imagine quite a few folks are still running it....

Actually so am I on one of my media servers.

Mostly because the wife knows how to use it.

I would be terrified at a Doctors office using it if they have my medical records on the computer. A 10 year old OS with no updates and support would be open to many security issues. Fresh computers are hacked all the time, and old one has to be open like a a sieve.

Valid point.

I was once checking out a new practitioner and they asked for my SS# which I left blank.

Queue the back and forth of "We need it" No you don't, "But we do" No, really, you don't..... I finally said fine, 1st I want to see current background checks on every single person with access to this facility. I want an independent SOC report. I would like to see your back offices and review your physical security measures. Are the systems that store PII connected to the internet........

They just looked at me like I had two heads so I walked out.

Same here. I went to a new ophthalmologist and filled out the paperwork. I left the SS number blank. They insisted they needed it to enter my in the computer. So I told her is was 555-55-5555 and she said that works.

My understanding is ONLY you place of employment, your bank and your CPA (if you use one) have the right to get your SSN. All others I tell to take a flying leap, ya ain't gonna get it.

They ask for it to make it easier for them to track you down if you turn out to be a deadbeat.

It's not a mutually beneficial exchange of info.
