Snow- Every damned redneck with a salt sprayer is out to destroy your car

****ing idiots. They really ought to license salt sprayers.

Sitting in my office during this ice storm and there goes Bo Cephus with his pitbull or whatever the **** salt sprayer flinging rocks all over my new truck. After the second time i walked out and stood in front of his truck before he could do it a third. 'oh it shouldn't be throwing that far'. ****ing idiot. Pulled purple salt **** out of assorted crevices in my front bumper.

****ing idiots man. ****ing idiots.

Is it a city or county truck?
Here...we have the grader trucks that cover the road with the salt/sand mixture. Then an hour later another grader truck comes by and scrapes it all into the ditch.

The door panels of my blue Fit are white.

We have gigantic dump trucks flinging it with those twirly things. Here they mix sand, salt and molasses. They use waaaay less salt than they used to but it really stays put, especially on cars.

The brine is even more insidious. That crap gets into every space imaginable.

I'm assuming he's talking about a private parking lot.
My work place takes the approach that salt is cheap compared to a workman's comp claim due to slipping on the ice, so they have the contractor lay it down thick and often. The blacktop is typically white from Dec to April. They even bought a side-by-side with a blade and a salt thrower on the back to do the sidewalks.
One of the trucks the contractor used 2019 - 2020 had a cracked exhaust manifold, that was fun to listen to. I'm home now, so I just get to listen to all the retired guys snowblowing at 8:00am. Hope to join them soon.

In Chicago, the ability to remove snow can cost you a mayoral election. In the 70s, Mike Bilandic lost an election because he failed to remove snow from neighborhoods. Since then, no mayor has repeated that mistake. They salt the crap out of Chicago streets.

Private parking lot. Private (aka any idiot with a truck and hitch) operator.

Stopped at the grocery store this morning and saw the same dumbass had driven a mini excavator up onto the shopping center sidewalk to get out of the sleet. Jackasses.

That's what Portland uses when it snows..laughed when the TV girl said it wasn't salt..it was magnesium sulphate. HA! If anything, it's more corrosive than salt brine.

Luckily, snow doesn't last long in the Willamette Valley. Being retired, I can just hunker down until the snow is gone and the rains have returned.

Yep. Mammoth got 6-9 FEET of snow in the last few days and I'm heading up. No salt that I'm aware of on roads, they just plow it and then let the sun do the rest.

After a few days of skiing, we will head back to LA winter, which involves golf and tennis in the sun. It's worth a little more $$.

It's all dumb. Colorado is beautiful beyond description. Fairly conservative western state as well, if that matters to people.

And yeah, salt on roads sucks. I can't believe that residents of certain states stand for the property damage...it's in the billions.

Mammoth snow is a very different kind than what happens on the e. coast. You can get 5-10 feet overnight and the roads are fine the next morning.

I found out the hard way this weekend that AZ must not have any law or custom about cleaning snow and ice off your car before setting out on a drive. I was in Payson and, coming back down the mountain, I was getting pelted with ice balls and chunks from all the cars that didn't bother to clean anything more than their windshields. It was a schitshow. Pretty sure that stuff is illegal back east.

I've never heard of a law requiring you to remove all snow from your car before driving on a highway. Where did you see one??

I'm pretty sure it was a law in VA when I lived there. It was pretty rare that people didn't clean off their cars and cops did nail people for not doing so. It really can be dangerous.

That's interesting and I believe you because each state can make their own laws about most things. It's a nice law as well but it doesn't exist anywhere I've ever driven. Driving home from Mammoth, large chunks of melting snow are constantly flying off of vehicles.

It's killing our waterways as well.
