Investment futures of Solid State Electric Vehicle Batteries
I'm sensing that the growth of Electric Vehicles soon will become more and more popular as new battery technologies are developed, and federal EV mandates by 2025-2030 of auto manufacturers.
There are 2 companies, QuantumScape and Solid Power that I'm interested investing in. BMW, Ford, VW, Toyota, Hyundai, have invested into both these companies that are trading low price range of stock offerings, ~$20 a share. Figure I'm getting on board this future investment at the early stages of development. https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/12/14/will-quantumscape-recover-in-2022/ Will QuantumScape Recover In 2022? | The Motley Fool https://ir.quantumscape.com/home/default.aspx QuantumScape - Investor Relations QuantumScape is a leader in the development of next generation solid-state lithium-metal batteries for use in electric vehicles. The company’s mission is to revolutionize energy storage to enable a sustainable future. ir.quantumscape.com https://mywallst.com/blog/what-is-the-better-investment-right-now-quantumscape-or-solid-power/

Yeah, good question. Thanks for posting those links.
~20 years ago the "solid bet" was on supercapacitors. Not sure that actually went anywhere but maybe we're all still behind on the development curve. My opinion: Any lithium-based battery technology will be the future target of the next "let's go green initiative", but probably occur for a few years of investing. |

I follow both these companies technologies for professional reasons.
They use different solid state electrolytes. I would say Solid Power is more advanced in terms of battery size they build, having a pilot plant, and the fact that their technology is better suited for mass production because the separator can go on roll-to-roll production lines. In the end, I believe the technology that is easiest to integrate into existing giga factories will be the winner. JMO, and I haven’t read the linked articles yet.

I figure with this technology, investment wise, you cast a wide net, to get the winner.
Beta vs VHS comes to mind.

I have not looked at these opportunities in depth, but I think it is always a good idea to see who is backing them.
"BMW, Ford, VW, Toyota, Hyundai, have invested into both these companies..." My biz associates swim in this ocean in venture capital and know the people likely involved. Know them very well. The related infrastructure modernization is another area of massive opportunity, and though all of the large global mobility players likely have extensive EV strategies regarding range, et cetera, it is likely that they are more exposed than they want to be on charging infrastructure. Our group had an interesting panel on corporate VC trends and future, and we had some mobility players. So this topic naturally came up. One of the panelists, a car guy with extensive business accomplishments, made me aware of an interesting and perhaps exciting development/commercialization effort in the energy production space: https://cfs.energy/ News story from late 2021: https://cfs.energy/news-and-media/commonwealth-fusion-systems-closes-1-8-billion-series-b-round A $1.8 billion series B ain't no joke. I think more than half of US venture capital is corporate. And in general, there is a lot of competition to get in on the best deals. On the other side, we will see how it all plays out in the public company space. The runway to the mid-21st century is going to be very interesting.

CFS company and hydrogen power isn't avail as a listed stock. And I see us a ways out till hydrogen power becomes widely accepted at the consumer level. Maybe for massive megawatt applications, but interesting technology non-the-less.
