Paypal wants my driver's license.

Following the thread on eBay, I got an email from PP that they want me to scan and send a copy of my DL or other gov't ID, AND a copy of a utility bill to verify my address.

For now, they say my account is "limited" and what they mean is frozen. That's fine with me as I've had no balance for years.

These 2 companies are comiting suicide.

I think it's a requirement in the last stimmy bill.

Coinbase is requiring it as well. I'm sure as hell gonna move all my coins before they get my social....

I still have paypal but I do not think I will use it in the future. Too bad the newspapers have all died. I liked selling in the classifieds. Met people face to face and and cash was king.

Are you sure it is actually PayPal making the request. There have been phishing campaigns in the past.

I use PayPal a couple of times a month and haven't had any new requests.

Never used paypal...NOT the protections offered by a bank credit card.

Sooner might be right... You can't be too careful about giving info over the net.

Exactly. I never open any "PP" emails

I get those BS emails all the time. Complete scams. I only access my PayPal by logging directly into my account. I use it frequently. If there are any issues, I'm made aware when i log in.

I’m done with PayPal. Stimmie Bill requires transactions of $600 or more be reported. It just makes me not want to use it.

I got an email from PayPa1 once

Not PayPal

I use it mostly for gift or friends and family payments. eBay no longer requires it, so I use Amex for those purchases. Never click on any link you get in an email. I only ever log in directly.

Scam....ignore it......

I have been very active on eBay and PayPal recently. No emails to verify address from either. I’m curious, what is the email address of the organization that sent you the original notification.

This smells like a scam to me.

Yes, I turned around and signed in from my bookmark. I don't do links in emails.

It says right there on the site that I'm restricted. Might have been hacked and caught. My balance is either one dollar or zero. I can't see the balance and I didn't ask for the dollar.

I use PP as a last resort, but that's to pay, not be paid. I think if you are being paid, it's different.

If they asked me for the same (to make a payment) I'd just never use them again.

Zeke 01-16-2022 12:58 PM

I've used PP almost exclusively as a 3rd part payment portal whenever a seller or selling company (mostly in my case) has a link. Saves typing in my info. I buy all my supplies online. Many times companies will send me stuff I can't buy in CA.

PayPal is now a collection agent for Uncle Sam starting this year. If you get more than $600 in payments that aren't "friends and family" you're getting a 1099 and required to pay taxes on it. Hence the request for ID verification. Going to be some unpleasant surprises for some "small timers" come tax time next year.

Started a thread a week or so ago on this. It got moved to PARF.

They didn't ask for a SS number. eBay was supposed to do this 4 years ago, or more. I remember cautioning my SIL who makes a living on the flea.

Before now, you had to first hit $20k or 200 transactions before PayPal/Venmo etc. sent you a 1099. That was lowered to $600 in total payments this year.

Let's go Brandon ^^^^

Don't forget to report earnings on goods you have stolen...

I use PayPay to buy some things from a random web site on occasion. It is real easy to punch in my paypal username and password, and the item is shipped. I DON'T want to set up yet another username and password on yet another site. My password list is long enough. I have often called their customer service and ordered on the phone to avoid making up another password for another account. PayPal charges to my credit card, done.

Can’t argue with Glenn.

Easy Peasy.
