Gauge Sender Question

Six years ago I installed a VDO external temperature gauge in my 1975 Targa.

At the time the gauge and sender cost $100.

I’m trying to do the same project in my golf cart. I’ve purchased a VDO Viewline gauge (sample image below) but the damn thing did not come with a sender.

I’ve emailed and called VDO to no avail. I went to North Hollywood Speedometer and bought a sender that I thought was in the right range, but as it turns out was for engine water temps (100-240F.) In fact, I am having difficulty identifying the correct part number for this gauge. The one installed in my targa does not have a part number stamped on it.

Here is the question: Does anyone have a good resource to buy/identify a sender that is the correct OHM range for my gauge?

I even have a spare boat OAT (Outside Air Temperature) gauge, but cannot find a sender for that one either. Yes I did call that company and ask for the part number to no avail. You would think I am trying to buy uranium.

Best thing you can do is just what you did, call them out. — everywhere.

But that doesn't get you a sending unit.

Golf cart? Is it enclosed and air conditioned? Get a thermometer.

I’m embarrassed. I could not find the part number. Obviously I was looking in the wrong place. Thanks for helping.

I ran out of things to do on my 911s so I moved on to “Arnold.” I’ve installed a speedometer and volt meter. Next is radio, compass, thermometer gauge and clock.

I would have thought you'd be a little older.

Shucks. All my golf carts have MFD on the HUD with autonomous capability. Where you at?

I just checked. . . the sender in the link above is the one I bought from North Hollywood Speedometer. It has 120 degrees Celsius stamped on it. Not an ambient temperature sender, unless you are living on Venus

That's not a golf cart, that's a Jeep.

Common Ground Marine in Newport Beach sells VDO. They are very helpful and should be able to either help you get your sender working or sell you the correct part.
I'd bet it's something simple like getting the sender grounded and the gauge set for the correct supply voltage.

I’m beginning to think there may be something wrong with the wiring and or gauge. You can see the needle slightly move when it gets power, but when I touch the sender wire to the ground nothing. It should top out like the oil level gauge in our 911s, since it is a matter of Ohms and resistance.

I’ll give Common Ground a call. Thanks for the tip.
