Certainly the parts close to Kansas, are very flat just like Kansas. The parts of Oklahoma close to Arkansas is very hilly, and forested. There is actually a virgin forest with old growth timber fairly close to Tulsa. The Arbuckle mountains are some of the oldest mountains in the country.

In far southeast Oklahoma has the worlds tallest hill!

One of my friends, David Fitzgerald has several books of beautiful books of Oklahoma landscapes photos.

My buddy was there for a few months working on the new Leonardo DiCaprio movie "Killers Of The Flower Moon" directed by Martin Scorcese. He enjoyed it there. The film is about some murders of Osage Indians in the 1920's involving tribal land and oil.

My brother lives in Yukon (home of Garth Brooks) and my SIL is 75% Cheyenne/ Arapaho.

It's nice.

If you have a couple extra hours on the way up to Texoma or back down let me know.

You'll have to pass by myself and Lubie on the way.

I'm sure I can drag him out to have a beer or three with you.

We can meet you in Grapevine which is the North end of DFW.

I can promise you the best ****ing brisket taco you will ever have in your life.

What!? BBQ brisket tacos? I’m googling now. Avilas? Hmmmm

Damn. I’m only bringing my black bass rod/reels. I’m not buying heavier gear for this random trip. Could be trouble. I might be outgunned.

About hills. Once a year every state hosts a hike for falllen policemen. You hike to the tallest peak in your state. My brother does the Texas one which is brutal and all day. Every state then post pics. He said some states there is a bunch of cops standing on a knoll. :)

The highest peak in Florida is the trash mound at the land fill. We do have a few actual mountains. Inside Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is Mt Scott.

It is a nice drive to the top for some nice scenery. You can see buffalo and elk in the wild there. Most of the Texas Longhorns alive today came from the wildlife reserve. They were almost allowed to die off as a species.

Best brisket tacos I've ever had in my life.

It's ridiculous how good they are.

And now i'm craving them, feels like calling in an order for a dozen for a weekend of football may be in order.

Google it before you plan the trip, I think it’s a place you would get a kick out of. Have them cut you some ribeyes to grill at night after fishing and stock up on some sausage to eat during the day, while out on the water.

great intel. i'll do this since i am showing up to camp empty handed. camping with a bunch of skinnyass Laotian guys that can eat more than humanly possible. its scary. super fun, these guys are Asian guys with thick texas accents.

I was born and raised in Oklahoma before moving to Colorado. It's always fun to think about what people consider geographic landmarks. For example, a hill or mountain in Oklahoma isn't even noticed in Colorado. Whereas I know people in Oklahoma that have private ponds on their land larger than what people in Colorado call lakes.

You've received some very good advice for the trip. As mentioned Texoma is a very large lake and very deep at points. Being so large there are not many roads to navigate around the lake so if you run short of something you might have a bit of a drive to get back to town to get supplies. Something to consider.

Exactly. When I think "mountain" my thoughts go to young, peaky, rocky. I've seen some stuff that people called mountains and thought "nah, that's just a really big hill."

Very interesting, I'd never thought about the various perceptions, and never really thought about it applying to other stuff, like lakes, rivers, etc...

It's literally 5 minutes from the airport.

I'll drive the pcar down and you can see the bumpers you shipped me actually on the car.

That was a huge solid you did me.

He climbs El Capitan.

You're a problem, Vash. It doesn't matter where you come from, Texans welcome all, but if you start pointing out issues you have with people such as Laotian, black, white, yellow, orange, or Asian, we got issues. Leave that behind in California.

Thanks.

javadog 01-22-2022 03:11 PM

I think you completely misinterpreted what he was saying.

i grew up in Texas. lived there most of my life. i'm on that list you listed out.

i'm pretty sure you mis understood me. probably my fault, with my janky writing skills. i apologize for that...but you're calling out the wrong guy. these people are my people, my buds. i love hanging with them, and they are gonna show me the definitive way to make sticky rice. i cant pull it off, just perfectly.

What am I missing here... No idea what post you were reading to come up with this response? Also el Capitan is not the highest point in CA, not even close. Scratching my head over here.
