Finally snow in NW Ohio!

Somehow snow has missed us both to the north and south all winter long thus far in NW Ohio. Yesterday we finally got a few inches with a few more possible today.

3 year old grandson called yesterday begging me get the snowmobile out. Spent 20 minutes digging it out and getting it running.... He rode it for about 5 minutes then he was done.... Kind of a BTDT moment I guess. lol

My son sold his snowmobile last Sunday (32* spitting rain/snow, windy) to a trio of eager teenagers. I helped them load it with my loader...none of them had a coat, and one guy was in short sleeves. I hope they have fun.

The one we just sold was nearly the same basic sled I had back in the mid 80s...a Blue 1978 Kawasaki 440 Drifter, we rode it quite a bit last year in the deep snow with the whole family.

So you guys did not get the 15"+ of snow a week ago we got in Akron?

Many businesses and all schools were closed.

Yesterday was a "just right" snowfall. I'm guessing 6-8".

I took a lady friend out on her door dash thing and she made some money yesterday as few wanted to drive in it. One guy gave her a $100 tip (she started crying).

About 4" of lightweight powder yesterday here.
Another 2" this morning of the same and is expected to filter in all day.

Modern kids are weird. You would have had to pry my frostbitten hands off the grips of that thing in the dark when I was young.
Been through the same thing with my son and dirt bikes . He would rather push buttons on a controller

The other day we had ice pellets. Thankfully, we haven't (and hopefully don't) had anything like last Feb.

On my 15 mile highway drive back from an appointment this morning, everyone was single file at 45-55mph.
Occasional white-out conditions.
There were no less than 6 cars off the freeway.
A couple way in the ditches, a fender bender, and a toyota sedan smashed up in the divider.
A van and a pickup flew by doing 80mph in the left lane completely iced-over, but didn't become Darwin Winners yet.

In town, a pickup with a front Mexico plate inches forward up to my bumper at a light (oh no BOHICA my radar is going off)
The driver is a young male with ball cap.
Handicapped plate.
The light turns green, five cars ahead, and he instantly honks.
I stay back and several blocks ahead the road turns into two lanes on a slippery hill.
I have momentum with front wheel drive and pass on the left.
He lays down the horn, back tires spinning and gets a foot over into my lane as I pass.

SMH. These people will spend a lot more time fixing their mistakes than they saved.

Grew up in the late 70s up to about 1985 riding snowmobiles and dirt bikes. Best years of my life. My sister rode a kitty cat just like that

I haven’t been on a snowmobile since then. I can only imagine how amazing they are now, and expensive

^^^ The newer ones will go 100mph or more.
If you buy a top-of-the-line sled...150mph

The first one I rode in the 60's would go 25 mph...tops. (Ski-doo)

Back then I was riding a 1980 Kawasaki invader ltd 440….went 95. We had various arctic cats - all very quick, and the old ski doos (yuck). If you were late waking up, you got stuck on one of those all day

You gotta be insane to hit 150 on a snowmobile I think. Woweeee I wanna try one

I was thinking that in the 60's....95mph was just a dream for a snowmobile.
That 25 mph Ski-Doo was about the fastest one at that time. I think it was 1963

At seventeen I did a 360 on a snowmobile.
Buddy lived on a farm in "the country" which is now another suburb and had country toys.
We were cruising 45mph side by side. Me on the sheet ice road and him on the grass.
He slammed on the brakes and so did I. I spun and expected to have to jump up for my life but it never hooked. Ended up straight ahead
Good times.
His father owned an early pcar and let me drive it. Thus my later purchase.

My first sled in the early 80's was an old clapped out approximately 1969 Artic Cat Panther that looked about like this. I think I paid $100 for it back then.

Next was a $50 POS 1974 MotoSki 440, next a Polaris Cutlass 340, then a '78 Scorpion Whip 440, then a '79 SkiDoo Blizzard 5000.... All were cheap used clapped out pieces of ****. All were from when I was in highschool and early years in college. Used to get enough snow to ride em all winter long with friends. We would ride all over with them going to restaurants and later bars in the small towns I lived around.

Years later, after getting married, I bought an '89 ArticCat 650 Wildcat which I still own... I still ride it on the rare occasion that we get decent snow here in NW Ohio. I have ridden more modern stuff with freinds, but I can't justify owning the new expensive stuff knowing I won't get to use it here where we live.

Had -7F this morning. Went outside and there was no wind and so quiet.
It's actually nice to get out in that type weather...just need to dress right.

I agree, I like it cold and quiet, but NW Ohio is known for it's wind, and that just ruins everything, and puts a scowl on your face.
