Yeah, yeah, I Know...but It's a Staion Wagon!

Good stance, a touch too high, possibly. Body looks great.

Something about the single headlight is working for me.

Hug those bumpers closer to the body.

Play some .38 Special and The Kinks, I'm in.

And who doesn't appreciate those lovely DOT swim platform bumpers?

my high school buddies first car was a hand me down, Country Squire station wagon.

he did some crazy stuff in that thing. i wouldnt bring home togo food in the back of that thing, if you catch my drift.

IIRC it had a big block. it was super fun..more fun for him, i'm sure.

When my sister's family grew from 2 to 3 in the fall of '73, my BIL told his dealer he needed a wagon.. The first car available was one of these with roof rack, wood grain cladding, swivel bucket seats, wire wheel covers and a 454 cu in v8.
Because of the frequent stop -start operation on the farm, it started to burn a lot of oil after a couple of years. That was par for the course, as it started to rust so badly the door mirrors were flapping in the breeze as you drove down the road.

Best
Les

I prefer '72 and earlier, but that's actually not bad. I don't know that I'd pay $26k for it. Weird that there's no pics of interior or under the hood.

LJ851 01-26-2022 12:51 PM

I learned to drive in a 1976 mercury grand marquis station wagon with a 460 big block. Black with wood grain on the sides and a red interior. It was longer than the 15 passenger Dodge van we used for work.

If I ever find a decent ‘66 Chevelle wagon I would have a hard time not buying it !

nota 01-26-2022 01:55 PM

had one got it for under 500 350/350 junked it running/driving because I got an 73 el camino
and had too many cars 70 euro 914 buick 70 400 gs wagon 65 bmw 1800ti

would have never guessed the value of any of those today
but
if the chevy is worth NEAR 26k my vista window gs motor 400 [forged] buick has to be twice that

I would think that a 70 GS 400 would be 50-75 if it was in great shape.

Actually, I bet this is a scam.

Ad says restoration needs completed, but pics show a solid car.

After re-reading the "paragraph style" ad, it's too tidy without photo evidence of the work needed.

I noticed something about needing a little TLC. The fact that they didn't show the interior or motor made me wonder if those are basket cases.

LEAKYSEALS951 01-26-2022 02:21 PM

That just needs some bigger wheels to fill those arches and damn the interior!

DonDavis 01-26-2022 02:27 PM

I agree, Steve.

I don't know. Rally wheels are pretty perfect for that sort of thing.

Here's a place that sells them in sizes from 14" up to 18"
https://www.cokertire.com/wheels/chevrolet-rallye-silver.html
The problem is that you still need a decent sized sidewall for them to look right. I could maybe see going with 16" or maybe 17" depending upon what tires are available that aren't going to end up being something silly like 205 50 17.

pwd72s 01-26-2022 02:28 PM

Make mine a '64 2 door...they had a sort of mini nomad look with sliding rear side glass.

DonDavis 01-26-2022 02:29 PM

But put pencil to paper and add up some crooked numbers and I bet the total hits $25k ricky tikky.

Maybe 26k is the "bait" on this scam.

Absolutely, older would be better. This is probably the absolute limit of what I could do, and even at that, it'd have to be a much, MUCH better deal than that. It'd have to be all around in good shape cosmetically and mechanically (not perfect, not restomod, not high hp, just decent original driver with reasonably decent paint) and still be <$10k before I'd even consider it. If it was a '72 or better yet, '70 or older, then that price could be higher.

20-25 years ago, I might have been interested in the stalled project I linked to. With a mild restomod in mind...horsepower around 350-400, suspension mods, good brakes, overdrive automatic for deecent MPG, air, nice stereo...nothing radical, but a decent driver for today's roads.

Today? Nope.

I had a ‘68 Buick Sportwagon with the 400 and GS hood/ram air…

It was cool as hell but needed to sell it when I bought my house after the divorce. My daughter is still pissed and it’s been 10 years

vonsmog 01-27-2022 03:54 AM

I like my German wagon better!

nota 01-27-2022 08:47 AM

that buick was a fun street racer
the 70 gs400 was 340hp 440t
only lost once to a built chevy with nox

and at 400 I bet his nox system costs more then my car

sadly the subtropics is not the place for pre zinked cars to last
rust never sleeps

vash 01-27-2022 08:51 AM
