Another new to me motorcycle: 2018 Janus Halcyon

I have been lusting after one of these ever since they first started coming out in 2016. Just never wanted to pay the brand new price for one. Came across one that turned out to be a good deal. And it only has 1200 miles on it! This will be a fun around town bike. And the guy I bought it from has me beat all to hell when it comes to shop size and toys!

Looks good.

I’d junk the 14hp Diesel engine and fit a 50hp two stroke and call it done.

Well, it’s actually a four stroke gas engine, but still 14 hp. You can buy an upgrade kit and get that baby powered with 20.5 hp! But this is more of an around town errand runner. And fun!

The engine is carbureted, not fuel injected and is even CARB compliant in California.

Note: Two stroke guys consider all other engines “diesels.”

If that be a purple tank, I had one of those way back when. Great bike. Not a lick of trouble.

Black with a red pinstripe. The low quality of the picture just has it blending itogether.

Yes, a very cool bike. Being so lightweight that 250cc Chinese 4 stroke should be more than adequate for its intended purpose. Would love to find a nice used one as well. They come up rarely. They’re now making a 450cc version too.

Is that the one that was advertised on ADV? As I recall he hit a turkey with it and Janus supported the repairs. Great customer service for a small company...doing what many of us would love to do for a living!

Yes, this is the one where the guy hit the turkey. Turns out to be a pretty fun story as he told it to me. As for the 450, I’m sure they’ll do a great job on building them, but it starts to take away from the simplicity of the bike. The 250 only weighs 262 pounds, light and nimble.

This is the sixth motorcycle that I have bought off of someone on the adventure riders board. And every one of the sellers has been fun to deal with. They are always upfront about their bikes so there are never any surprises. And it always turns out that we have something in common and spend hours sitting around bs’ing about motorcycles and life in general.

Congrats! Enjoy. Yes, I’ve had lots of good experience there as well. Just stay away from their politics sub forum (CSM) and ADV is great. That subforum is the extreme opposite of what you’d expect.

Enjoy the bike! I can definitely see one in the stable at some point.

With some soft side bags it'd make a fun grocery grabber.
