Who ?

A buddy used to have a few BW's tunes in his band's cover songs (including that one).... minus the "aw haws" of course .

^^^^ Did ya see the next video up? The Stones covering Waylon's BW's tribute... how cool is that ?

Crap... search on Stones and Wills ....probably the only time they ever played it live.

Hard to top this version from Waylon's (and Moon's) peak at the 1974 gig in Austin. In fact, I can't recommend the entire album enough. I seem to recall reading this performance of BWISTK was a not-so-subtle dig at Willie (who was in attendance that night) for his escalating popularity at the time.

I'll withhold comment on Mick's version. :-)

Waylon was just cooler than snakes . I didn't say Mick's version was any good.... just surprised to see them cover Waylon's BW's tribute song....

I bet ya didn't like Mick driving through Bakersfield early on a Sunday morning either

Ahh, no…

Being from Tulsa, I’m very familiar with Bob Wills. Tulsa is home to the Cain’s ballroom, and Wills and his band more or less lived there during the late 30s and early 40s.

No Bob Wills… if you have that Willie record, all the others don’t matter.

There’s more than a little music history in Tulsa. Leon Russell had a studio there in an old church on third Street.

Lots of bands have played at the Caine’s over the years.

Leon’s church studio was supposedly restored last year, I haven’t been back to see it. They’ve got a lot of videos on YouTube.

Here’s one local guy that had a decent hit in 1975 that was recorded at Leon’s place. The late Bill Pitcock played lead guitar for him, Susan Cowsill sang back up vocals. I always thought this song had a really cool guitar part. I would dearly love to find a way to go back in time and **** that short haired brunette in the audience, see if you spot her…

One of my favorite bands. Big Ray & co. In fact, a greatest hits disk is the Suby player right now.

The only coin toss I can think of that Waylon 'lost' is in reference to Buddy Holly. I didn't know Bob Wills had anything to do with that; BW died when I was in high school in the 70's, not in 1959 - (one day after I was born!).

I never miss a chance to see them live. Even in small venues with a smaller band, minus the big horn section, Ray consistently puts on one of the funnest, tightest live shows I've ever seen.
