Wow, I hope there was a reason the writer decided to tell us he was "just a farmer", because that just seems pretty insulting taken at face value.
According to his Wiki obit, he sold the farm in '71, moved to FL, and died in '74. He was only 53.

I was his full time gardener in Naples, FL for a year back in 1990. He owned Cablevision Industries.

Ah HAH! Thank you for that. I'm glad that you told me that story. My grandpa was a farmer, so my hackles were up, but you've cleared up the point for me.
