need a name pls ! crossposted

OK guy's

going to a car show in a few months and wanna get some personalised/vanity plates made up.

Now over stateside, you guys have some kool plates, where we have really boring ones.

As long as my car is on private property i can put whatever I want on it.

so..... here's the deal, can anyone suggest some suitable names for front and rear plates. the convetion here is up to 8 digits including spaces
for example

HHHH GGG (or)
GGG HHHH

either way must not be any bigger than 8 digit's. (thats the way the number plates machine prints em out)

now mine is a red 44 cab, either front and rear the same or different, heres some I come up with.

944S2CAB
FOREPLAY
4 PLAY
TOP LESS
PORK ME
LUV U 2
BOO YAH

JUST - (front)
PLAYING - (rear)

PLAYA - (front)
HAYTA - (rear)

I IS A - (front)
PLAYA - (rear)

It's all tongue in cheek, so help please !

cheers

Adrian

Hey, why is it that i always see UK personalized plates in the back of Porsche and 911 World going for thousands of pounds?

In So Cal, all you have to do is pay like $35 a year for pretty much anything you want. But you have to write out an explantion of what the plates mean.

Here's a funny one.

Buddy of mine has a 1969 Corvette Stingray 427, Awesome car, he spent 10 years building it, tubbed out, drag slicks, 4.11 gears, 650HP 427 V-8 bored out to a 466. top speed was recorded at 173MPH on the dragstrip. Here's the funny part....

His plate says U COPS, which you could explain to a DMV official. Well he also has a frame around it that at the top says F***.

hence F*** U COPS.

it to do with the government trying to get as much as they can from us motorists

So do you own the plates afterwards? Or do you have to re=pay at every MOT?

Hey Jared,

ok this is the deal.

when you buy a new car....

you pay the price of the car, registration, VAT, (I think theres also an on the road tax), delivary (even if its just down the road), years road tax.

Its at this time the car gets a "registration number" from the DVLA, for example, "HHHH 222", this usually stays with the car for life and is also cross referenced to the car via the VIN number.

In thery a stolen or ringed car, can be checked easily, the plates should match the VIN and engine details.
-----------------------------------------------------

Right, every year the car needs to be road taxed, to be able to be on a road. after a car is older than 3 years, a car must then pass an MOT test every year (more bucks), this prooves the car is roadworthy.

---------------------------------------------------------

now,my Porsche, say has a a number plate "HHHH 222" and I wanna change the plate, this is what happens

1> I have to find if it has ever been relased by the DVLA
(so you just cant make anything you want) they usually are up to 8 digits long.

2> some companies buy plates in bulk (explained later)

3> so say I find a plate, "eat me", I pay for the plate , e.g. £400. THEN I pay the DVLA to have it re-registered to me, again bucks.
However I still own my orginal plate "HHHH 222".

4> my new plate stays with me for as long as I want. The registration documents also shows an "additional" driver, so if my documents showed, 3 previous owners, getting a new plate makes it "4" previous owners !

5> when I sell the car, I can sell the car as is OR keep my new plate and sell it with its orginal plate.

6> now, you can only buy plates from the DVLA (like your DMV), from "bonded" companies who buy's these plates from..."the DVLA", if you want to sell a plate, a mate of mine has "LSD 500G"
it can only be sold "IF" the seller has the car, it has a valid MOT etc., so if its a pile of junk, sitting in a breakers, you can not "BUY" the plate at all.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

New laws have come out for number plates

1> they must confirm to certain sizes, eg
a plate which says "HOTD DOG", if you change the plate to read
"HOT DDOG" is illegal, and fails the MOT

2> if a plate has fancy script/fonts, is illegal

3> if it has anything on it so as to obsure it, cracks, coverings, neon lights, IS illegal and fails an MOT

4> any tampering with a plate is "illegal" and can result in the plate being taken away from you, £3000 fine, and your car registered as a "Q" plate. a q plate means "questionable", usually people who make kit cars, import cars, stolen, write off back on the road. Buying a car on a "q" plate is considered a bit dodgy !

5> on our plates youd have the number eg "HHHH 222", you used to be able to but a pretty border and writing underneath, eg "bmw dealers," "tampa florida" "adrian is kool", now, it MUST have the details of the people who made the plate, eg
"MDC sl2 1dp 01753 222222" that is the company, its zip code and phone number. so fa4r this is not compulsory, but any new plates must have this, old plates so far are still legal

6> and finnaly, before you can get a plate made up for your car, you must show your, drivers licence and registration documents.

America the land of the free !
you just dont know how much
