In Android it's simple. Hold your thumb on the icon until the option list appears. When it does, hit uninstall app.

Or you can keep the app, but disable the access...

For Android phone users: Go to Settings >> Application >> Application manager >> find Facebook >> Permissions >> Turn off mic.
On Android Marshmallow: Go to Settings >> swipe to Personal >> Privacy and Safety >> App Permissions >> Microphone >> find Facebook, then slide it to the off position.

(only five more distinct password popups to go and then you are all set to fully use your own computer)

Apple still 'searches' personal photos stored locally offline....the keyword here being personal.

The settings seem to indicate that blocking any automatic uploading to 'the cloud' deletes all photos stored locally on the device. wtf

Haxxors/Apple/Haxxors/Apple I don't care. It's not their data to steal.
I'm not trainable in that way.

I'm not too worried about all that stuff anyhow. I'm so random there's no way AI will figure me out.

There are non-iOS and non-Android OS out there still.
Delta service requires those to make their website work or they give you a 3hr estimated wait time to speak to a live agent. Disfunction.

It's too bad Blackberry disappeared. I'm still looking for a quality linux smartphone from a major provider.

Map guidance is my achilles heel.
Google now owns 99% of the non-Apple guidance market cough.
RE sites, MapQuest, even Microsoft Bing defers to them.
Add in search, email, OS, ReCaptcha and that becomes most of the internet....

Full maps should be downloadable. GPS is free.
Where does it say constant tracking and monitoring is a technological requirement?

If the service is free, you are the product. And GPS maps are not even remotely free. If you want to update your GPS device, the maps are sold as a service. Yea, you can receive the GPS signal and learn your geolocation on Earth, but unless you have a map to know what is where all you have is a dot on a blank screen.

The service is NASA and was paid for by taxpayers long ago.
I don't know how it all works, but other countries must also have their own signals constantly beaming down.
(Some are probably encrypted for other uses like encrypted HAM and cough partisan diplomatic communications recently. That all gets complicated.)

Unless Congress allows to deny the US general public access to satellite transmissions it should remain so.

The mapping software companies are within their own rights to sell their own product. I agree.
Market control and dominance was what I was hinting at.

On Apple at least, it's not facebook that's disabling, it's Apple. And I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't care if facebook gets the data it wants or not.

Like I said before to someone in one of these threads. Security (and pretty much everything) is about compromise. You can lock everything down so you are untraceable. Of course, to do that you've got to live completely self sustainably off grid somewhere with no creature comforts.

If you've got one of those cards from the grocery store that gets you discounts or coupons, you're being tracked.

If you surf the Internet, you're being tracked unless maybe you use TOR to do your surfing.

Seriously, just delete the FB app. And if you can't delete it, use ADB to disable it:

Quote:

Using ADB commands is free and the process to follow in order to remove the unwanted bloatware is quite straightforward.

You will need to download and install ADB on your computer first. You will need to install USB drivers on your phone in order to ensure proper communication between your computer and your phone.

In order to disable the apps using this method, you will need to know the exact package name of the app you want to get rid of. For this, you will need to head over to the Play Store and install App Inspector. Go to the app and select App List and then tap on the Facebook app. You can find the package name under the name of the app. This starts with a "com" or "net" followed by words separated by dots.

After this, connect your phone to your PC and enable USB debugging. Input the following command with the package name in the place of XX.

Code:

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user o XX

^^ This ^^ is Android specific. ADB, it's been a long time. I had the G1 (Google phone #1), and then the G2 and had them both rooted/jailbroken with custom OS. The good old days...

What if you don't want to delete FB from your phone? I'd rather use it on my phone than my PC, but change settings so it's not as irritating. I don't allow it to track my location or listen to my conversations.

Only thing that has access to my microphone is Teams, Zoom, and Shazam (for IDing songs).

For my camera, it’s Teams and Zoom.

I recently signed up for Facebook to use FB Marketplace to sell my M3. Now that it’s sold, I’m going to delete the account.
