We have some severe weather. Trees down take our power out each winter. 2015 we were out for a week with temps in the 30's/40's. I have 2 Honda 2000's I originally bought for the motorhome I towed my race car with. I needed both to run the AC for the dogs. I still use them for our camping trailer. We have a gas insert that can keep the house fairly comfortable, gas stove for cooking. Some water bottles stored, plenty of wine in the basement, should be good to go.

A note about fuel for your generator(s).......

As Crowbob mentioned (using the 15 gallons of diesel from one of his tractors) - don't forget you can always siphon fuel from one of your vehicles.

My generator uses both gas or propane so I keep a couple propane tanks on hand. Since we typically only lose power during hurricane season, I also have several fuel cans that I fill up with non-ethanol gas as we approach hurricane season. I think that's about 15 gallons worth - enough for about 2 weeks. But I also make sure my vehicles are filled up and can draw from them (the Silverado holds ~20 gallons itself). Speaking of siphoning......you should get one of these....they come in very handy all the time - not just during a power outage...battery powered fuel transfer pump:

My generator is electric start and also had a rope pull option.

I also have a 110v window AC unit that can run off the generator.

Food is not something I typically worry about so much because our power outages don't last that long. As Paul said - we are on city water and it never stops during power outages so water is never an issue here.
