EVs in the future
I like the Polestars. The Polestar 1 was a halo car at around $155K. Plug-in hybrid, based on the Volvo S90 Concept. Nice car. The Polestar 2 is a chunky sedan meant to take on the Tesla Model 3. Not even a blip on the radar so far, but a nice car, too. A Polestar 3 SUV is coming next. Now the O2 Concept is out there. Maybe it'll come with a drone, like the spinner in Blade Runner 2049...

......dunno man............I know these cars are stupid fast, but they don't make any noise!!
Kinda like having rough sex with a deaf woman......half the experience |
Or being deaf yourself.
It's nice that they're super quiet. It also makes the acceleration seem effortless. Double edged sword. |
And I think all that torque is boring. My motorbike had too much torque, 1st went to 85, could power wheelie in 2nd. Spend all my time regulating the throttle, never get to wring it out on the road.
Drove a model X with ludicrous mode. Just crazy fast from a low speed, throw you back in the seat. But to what end? Is much more fun to have a vehicle that you need to wring it way up to get the excitement. Electric is the opposite of drama. I'd rather drive the crap out of a 10hp vespa on rainy cobblestones then a model x on america's roads. Fundamentally electric motors have power that declines with rpm and it makes 'em boring. And then they overheat and run in safety mode. |
I saw a Polestar 2 on the road yesterday. It almost looks "de-badged" like they don't want you to know what make or model it is.
|
It kinda is. There's that weird symbol on the back. The model info is on the lower front of the front door (if it hasn't been removed).

Battery tech?
|
I get that manufacturers want to make EVs look all futuristic and stuff, but why do they have to make the wheels so damn ugly?
|
^^^ I was thinking the same....simply terrible.
|
|
^^^ Those I like.
|
They actually look pretty cool.
|
They look like you're trying to keep rodents out of your brakes.

Looks like Honda and Sony are going to partner up this year and maybe get something on the market by 2025. Honda has been slow to get on the EV bandwagon. Usually they're on the bleeding edge.

I like it a lot.
The Polestar O2 EV is a modern Lancia Stratos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcpE1J3xwqE <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WcpE1J3xwqE" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> Quote:

I’d never buy an electric but I would buy a hydrogen fueled one.
|
I suspect hydrogen may be a serious factor in the future, but we're going to have to run through the EV phase for a while - with the building of the charging station infrastructure & all. My wife's Tesla is working out great for our needs at this time.

Hydrogen is odorless, difficult to keep sealed up, and must be filled to high pressures to be useful (which uses energy). Tanks creak and pop when filling. I've seen a few vids where they went off like mini car bombs in the trunk. It's a nice clean renewable energy source for the right purposes.

Flashy little 100k sports cars are nice, but I'd like to see more practicality.
More hauling storage and lighter battery and less engine in hybrids. EVs still need something to recharge them in the stix and wherever infrastructure is not there. The Atkinson cycle is better than the Otto for this but there are some interesting designs out there. |
There is enough oil in the ground to use gasoline far into the future. I won't be buying a silly electric car any time soon even though my tax dollars have been subsidizing others to do so. I drove 400 miles each way on a ski trip the last few days. Would have sucked to have to stop part way and wait to get charged. Damn greenies are forcing this **** down everyone's throats.
