Belated adventures of Joe Bob.....

A Florida Pelicanite asked for help to pickup and deliver a project 911. Since I'm retired, bored and stoopid, I volunteered.

Had to wait a bit for clearish weather. I took off from from GA and headed up to Pennsylvania. Towing my newly purchased double axle enclosed trainer. Left at 8 am and arrived at 11ish PM. My destination owner had already retired for the evening so I settled in and set my alarm for 7am.

Temps got down into the 20s and I put on my snow suit and triggered the electric seat warmers in my ML350 Mercedes. The owner got up and I met up with him for the first time despite having done business with him the past with my graphic business. He has a beautiful home full of Range Rovers, retired police vehicles and a two P-Cars. We shot the dootie, loaded up and I split the scene. Buncha parts and a stripped down and caged 911.

The early afternoon traffic was hellashish. AT one time I spent 2 hours to get 1 mile.

I stopped off to get some diesel fuel. BAD choice. Got a a load of contaminated fuel. Within ten miles of fill up, the check engine light flickered on and all power went down to the level of a 36hp VW. I pulled into a station and siphoned the tank and purchased a hopefully clean tank of fuel and two bottles to Techron. I had a siphon and 4x5 gallon containers. The engine went into "limp mode" and my max speed was 53 mph. After a cool down, full power, 3 hours later, limp mode again.

Engine responded and I proceeded south...btw, no sleep, destination middle Florida. 17 hours later, I pulled in to my destination and delivered my load. The client I had never met but he trusted me due to recommendations. Gave me a deposit I delivered. A bit late because the northern weather delayed my departure.

Still no sleep...lots of coffee, looked on the net, lots of the shaky hands. Tried to get a short term motel. Got hosed. Took my CC, no confirming email, bogus address.....ended up driving north for two hours and slept in a rest area. Warmer this time.

Headed back to GA. An 8 hour drive turned into 15 hours with traffic. Got back close to home and last fuel up. An idjut cut me off and I had to circle the pumps to find a Diesel that could pump to the passenger side.

Whilst I cut through the rabble I finally found an open pump. I got out and all of sudden this VERY LARGE BLACK LADY IN A MOOMUU charged me and said I hit her Kia.....yeah right. My window was down, no noise no bump.

I got out of my ride. Overalls and an open carry .45 on my hip....she's STILL talking shyite. I looked at the right rear 1/4 panel. Looked like someone sneezed on her clear coat....I gave my info and split the scene. NO DAMAGE to my trailer.

Oh yeah, I picked up a nail and had to change one of the trailer tires. I got home and slept 14 hours straight.

Otherwise. No issues.

The buyer and seller are unnamed but if they choose to respond that's up to them.

Joe Bob, you sure make a career hauling old cars sound like fun. I think I will pass on that. Good job getting it all delivered safely.

The whole thing sounded terrible. I hope you were sufficiently compensated.

The last time I hauled a car cross country (west to east coast), it turned out to be the hottest week of the year. I had all four tires and the spare blow out and shred over the course of the trip (tires were old and I should have bought new ones). It was the week of July 4th and so many vehicles were on the road in the same situation that I spent 3 nights sleeping in the car in different Walmart parking lots because everyone was out of trailer tires...and it was really hot in the car too. So much that I sweated off over 10 lbs. My wife was with me and hated me thoroughly, as well as my Trailex and 911. She still does...I think. Somewhere along the way, the fuel line on the 911 broke from vibration at the fuel tank and I slowly lost the full tank along the road. I tried to stop it but could not...and was sure that it would catch on fire. I noticed it at a truck stop when I was fixing my trailer's tail lights that went out and i had to crawl under the trailer on asphalt so hot that it was almost molten. Good times. I have not pulled a car more than 10 miles since and should probably replace my tires again before I do.

I feel your pain.

I was waiting for the part where you picked up a redheaded hitchhiker and that's when things really went south... :)

LOL ... I am really disappointed in you too JB!

Traffic is a nightmare in Florida during the month of March. Bike Week, spring breaks, art shows, concerts, etc. etc.

Yes fine story. But did you do it hopping on one foot, rubbing the belly and patting the head while reciting untranslated Tolstoy backwards.
("Crikey" as that alligator man used to say)

Joe Bob 03-10-2022 06:38 AM

I hate redheads....

I know of similar story between friends where the tow rig got into a major accident.

The precious cargo was badly damaged.... It rolled inside the trailer.

Insurance did not pay for the cargo.

Glad you are OK and made it home safe.

You are a good guy.... I wouldn't not have done it.

911 Rod 03-10-2022 08:18 AM

Please tell us you made a couple of grand?

Joe Bob 03-10-2022 08:42 AM

Joe Bob 03-10-2022 09:10 AM
