any thoughts on the year 2022 yet?

too early to call?

me; it's going okay. had to stop drinking beer after a come to Jesus discussion (im exaggerating) with my doctor. that sucked. i figured i would stop eating blatant sugary snacks as well, to round out the bummerness. extra tough this time of year, since two super elusive beers (Pliny the Younger, Big Chicken) come out. my friends told me Big Chicken was awesome. my wife got a sip last night at happy hour. i am not an alcoholic, but i do love me a good pint of beer out with friends. truth be told, not eating a donut at the company meeting is proving to be more challenging. last meeting one of my staff brought oranges and bananas as the snack (to not tempt me) and got side-eyed the entire time by the rest of my team. interesting that i am losing weight just stopping donuts and beer. who knew? i hope my liver rebounds!

the rest is going great. work is good. i have since embraced teleworking. working in fuzzy slippers and PJ pants feels good. having my dog check up on me by pushing his face under my computer typing hands is cool.

wife and i are finally talking about some international vacation again. i cant wait to dip into my overflowing vacation balance.

I have been fighting water retention in my legs, and shortness of breath, even though my cardiologist has adjusted my meds twice. At 5'-10", 180#, I can tell a big difference in the way I feel with just 3-4# in either direction.

I had covid back in October, and have never fully felt 100% since, but hoping that our Jamaica trip (starting tomorrow) will get me walking more, and feeling better (mentally, and physically).

Also found out that the fortune 100 company I work for is selling our division to the Chinese, and my 23 year pension will be lump summed to me by the end of the year.

Looking forward to warmer weather.

I too, have been trying to cut out sweets, and late night snacks to eliminate night time indigestion, and lower my weight. Office donuts don't help a bit !

2022 so far:

Husband was laid off. I'm kinda liking the non-stressed husband and trying to convince him to look for less stress and let me take up the bread winner role for a while.

Since I finished nursing school in December, I am looking to take a bigger role in the medical device company I work for. Hopefully interviewing for a promotion in the next couple weeks. Fingers crossed.

I've lost 8 lbs and am making a real effort to exercise 4-5x weeks.

All in All things look good. I'm hoping everyone here (even you cranky ones. ) have a great 2022.

So far 2022 has been a pretty terrible year when it comes to folks dying it seems. My care giver's girl friend had a grand father who died in the beginning of January. Next, I found a muzzle loader friend from up in MN had died back in October 2021 from cancer and that was at the end of January. My wife died of kidney failure on January 10th and we thought it would have happened a year ago but she held on for a while! A week ago, my oldest daughter's step mom died of cancer which she had been battling for several years. Finally a young kitten we had adopted was hit by a car as she was trying to cross the street and died instantly it seems!

So you could say it is not the greatest year so far.......

That is quite a string of difficult circumstances, especially your wife, but she sounds like she was a true fighter.

I hope your fortunes change, and soon.

We are all doing well in 2022. My Mother used to say, when I'd ***** about something in my life: "Well at least you have the opportunity to enjoy the content of your struggles..."

I have 81 work days left until I pull the plug on my career in June. At 53, I will be going back to school to get masters in counseling so I can help people (especially other men) in dealing with unresolved trauma. I'm still 15 to 20 pounds heavier than I should be. My wife hasnt divorced me, even though she had every right to. My kid starts college the same time I start my masters. All in all, I'm pretty damn blessed

Yep, good stuff. I have a "profile picture" on my zoom app. I rarely do live video. The main reason is bandwidth, but t-shirts and how frequently I shave may also have a small bearing on the matter.

This year is my fourth being retired and loving it . I am fortunate that years of hard work and a money savings strategy has paid off . But I also realize that my wife and I could be one accident or health incident away from it all going upside down .

We try to enjoy every day , control what we can control and roll with the ups and downs of society. My perspective on what is REALLY important is much different than 15-20 years ago .

I've decided this is the year that I just don't care. I've decided to take the whole year off from worrying. And if this year works out well, I may do the same next year.

Life is a gift and I'm thankful for good health. I'm at a crossroads about retiring this year. I do plan on more travel to visit my sons who are at opposite ends where I live.

I hope all of you have a great 2022.

I got this today via email. She is a ranch woman from Wyoming, MS in Aero and getting her PhD in same. She was recruited by the Army as a GS to work on some VTOL projects and they will pay for her PhD.

Husband is a policeman, two kids...she is pretty much the deal. Her last day was today. She sent me this:

Paul,

It has been my honor and privilege to work with you these last few years! To say I’ve learned a lot from you is a gross understatement. Whenever I do a presentation, I just channel my inner Paul 😊 Your feedback, views, knowledge and encouragement have been greatly appreciated. The heckling of Paul G was just the icing on the cake.

When I say reach out for anything I truly mean it. I really believe in the work you are doing the projects we’ve had going and if I can help I’m there.

I wish you nothing but the best!

Paul G is my partner, Stanford loser...I heckle him like a Philly fan on Santa Claus.

2022: You win some, you win some. Great young Lady.

We're 2 months in and I'm already looking forward to 2023. Yeah It's looking that good. But reading John's post makes realize the problems I have are really nothing in reality.
