Yay, awesome, wait, f me

Put in a pool.

Builder was awesome and really an old school craftsman.

I have no complaints with him, only praise.

The daily micro intrusions of the project have been wearing me down.

I don't handle unplanned interruptions well.

They screw with my flow, writers block if you will.

When I'm on a call with the executive team or trying to work through code issues I really don't care what ****ing shade of pebble tech we want cause honestly, they all look the same to me even when you point out that one is 3% greener and the other 2% bluer, IDGAF, pick one.

So today was plaster day which means you fill it with water right after and yay you are done.

Was awesome dropping the hoses in and starting the fill.

Jacuzzi got filled first then onto the rest of the pool.

An hour after jacuzzi was full we looked at it and went WTF? Why is there 2 inches less water in there now than there was an hour ago?

Fill it back up to where it should be and same thing, it's an inch every 30 minutes.

It's leaking.

Leak is definitely in the PVC, I have wet spots that run in line with the PVC path and jacuzzi is down 8 inches in the last 5 hours.

I don't blame the builder, he's a handshake guy and I have no doubt he will make it right but damnit, I wanted to be done with this ****.

I suspect it was the sprinkler dude who brought in a small back hoe and crushed the pvc. But he is the builders sub so while I wont bear the cost I really just needed to be done with this project.

And no, it's not that the valves are set wrong and the drain line is open, thats not a scenario with how this pool was built.

"It's always something."

LOL, I'm sure it will be excellent. Teething pains. Summer is just around the corner and you will love it.

At this point, I thought you were going to tell us a story about someone or something going in the pool uninvited. A giant hog, a deer, a car, an RC plane, a quadcopter, a group of neighbor kids, etc.

Don't worry, a pool is full of misery! This is just the start. :D

Hope that makes you feel better.

I have a black plaster pool.
86 degrees all summer for free.
No more skinny dipping, now I'm a chunky dunker.

A hole in your yard filled with water that you pour money into.

cabmandone 03-17-2022 06:22 AM

^^^
Still doesn't rise to the level my 911 does as far as being a money suck. But at least the 911 goes up in value!

Pool will be worth the micro intrusions.
We have a solar heater on ours that is good for 10 degrees.
The blue bubble wrap cover is good for another 10 degrees.
Combined we keep the pool warm 2 months early and 2 months later compared to using no heat source.

I’m in TX.

We have to add pool chillers, I **** you not.

stomachmonkey 03-17-2022 10:19 AM

Builder just left.

Confirmed it’s leaking.

Plumber has been called to come deal with it.

He said it’s unusually common this year.

They are seeing a lot of deck guys pounding stakes for the forms into the PVC and then not saying anything.

Probably because it means they have to stop work till it gets fixed.

Had one when we lived in El Paso. Thank God it was a rental house and pool guy was part of the rent. BUT every time the pool guy came we were told to add water. Moved after a year because the water bill was too dang high.

Even better; have the Flex tape/seal folks come out and shoot a commercial fixing your stuff

Pools are not much different than boats and you know what they say about boats don't you? A hole in the water into which you pour money.

Look at the bright side, it won't sink.

someone didn't glue a tubing joint?

Did our pool in 2010. Was late enough in the year that the cement form was shot but then we went the entire winter in bare concrete, and resumed the project in April.
Pool outfits are notoriously coming and going, very seasonal work in the NorthEast, subcontractors that bid the lowest etc. Mine came out fine after two major red flags I observed; you should have seen how pissed they were over my insistence that they reverse and complete the work according to the contract.
Our yard looked like this for 7 months

We built a "non traditional" pool.

When going over to friends for parties we noticed adults don't swim or play in pools like kids do.

They hang around the edges in the areas where they can stand and put down a drink.

Those spaces are limited in traditional pools.

So we built what I was calling an adult entertainment pool until one day it dawned on me that may give an impression we don't want so call it a cocktail or leisure pool.

It's 4.5" at the deepest. Plenty of open space to enjoy without having to tread water.

Tanning deck is back left. The coping around it doubles as table tops where you can stand and place a cocktail.

We have a 4x4 table that seats 10.

The jacuzzi is a standard must have and seats6 comfortably.

3-4 can sit under the back water feature and there is a small 2 seater tucked between the tanning platform and jacuzzi.

All in there is seating for 20+ people.

Nice, Scott!

I'm no design expert but it reminds me of what one might call a mid-century modern design, more than anything else.

Love all the practicality built in too - that's the way to do it. :)

Back when I was doing my landscape thing, I urged clients all the time to go with a mid-century modern theme, but ultimately they just went along with something the pool builder had in their design book.

I've never had a pool but think they're pretty cool.

Thanks for sharing, good luck with the leak repair, and enjoy!
