Keith on CBS Sunday AM

A great interview yesterday. He seems more happy with his life than ever.

Is it true he quit smoking? Would it even matter at this stage?

I was looking at the Rolling Stone's 2015 top 100 guitarists and Keith was rated #2 (Hendrix was #1).

Keef may be my favorite "musician", but he is not a great guitarist imo ... hell, he's never even been the "best guitar player" in the Stones, nor the Winos .

But he is a musician extrordinaire ... and the glue that made the Stones stick.

...and he is Keef

I like Knopfler and Clapton. Who is considered better?

Realistically, Ronnie is a better player than Keef, but stylistically, who else would be able to front the Stones? (Mick Taylor in his prime was 'better' than Keef, and Brian Jones was head and shoulders above)

Peter Green, David Gilmour, Mike Rutherford, Mike Campbell, Robin Trower, Steve Winwood, Steven Stills, Steve Howe, Brian May, Carlos Santana; there's a long long list of better players.

But Keef is like Neil Young, you can pick out a lick in an instant, and you'll rarely be wrong, and his work meshes perfectly with the zeitgeist of the band.

Both ! Two of my favorites also .... both better than Keef.

Herr_O nailed it... Keef is awesome imo, but there's a long list of guys who are technically 'better' (purely subjective imo) as a guitar player.... jmho.

Note the skull ring. He's also a pretty good actor.

For my money - Mick Taylor was better, but Keef has that intangible of being 'something special'

Cheers

Mick technically better. Keith wrote the riffs. That makes him the best. No riffs, no hits. To what extent Brian wrote the early riffs, not sure anyone knows but Keith

I agree with both of the last two posts 100%. The Mick Taylor era was when I came of age, and also my favorite too . "Exile..." was my favorite album as I learned in college, but "Hot Rocks" with all their earlier hits was in my 8-track player as a teen .

Part of the special sauce, other than his sharp brain function and exceptionally good taste, is the 5 strings and open tunings. He created his own thing that makes him unique

And yea, Exile rules. Love everything but Exile is my fave
