In the Army we went down to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Alps for "Adventure Training". It was similar to what you did, mountaineering, climbing, rappelling, snowshoeing and kayaking. Lots of fun but don't know if I could do it today!

Looks like a great time and Mammoth is beautiful anytime of year. But I did enough camping in the snow in the Army, I prefer my camping today in the summer months!

Charlie, not to take ANYTHING away from your adventure - you're a standalone badass in my book - if you have netflix and you like F1, watch season 4 of Drive to Survive, where Gunther Steiner completes a pretty good looking climb of his own. I thought of this when I read about your excellent adventure.

(Can't find any footage to show you but this is the climb )
(Substitute crampons for snowshoes)

The outfit I used is here:

https://www.sierramountaincenter.com/programs/winter-mountaineering-skills-course/

Their guides couldn't have been better. I highly recommend them. Most of the pics on the website are from our trip. I'm third from the left in the 3rd "bubble" photo, and second from the left in the 9th bubble, on the summit. That's also our group on the frozen waterfall.

You won't be disappointed. Tired, maybe. Hope for bad weather! But not on rock climbing day. This is a single pitch climb rated at just 5.6, but with mountaineering boots and gloves (we wore them to prepare for the mountain), it climbs more like a 5.9. Not very hard but still fun.

Roped. I'm not crazy. The person in the pic is rappelling down the wall.
