China 737 crash

It's either a busy news day or I couldn't find the previous thread on this because it's not like Pelican to ignore and not speculate on an airliner crash.

My guess: they ran out of fuel

Sarcasm ?
They dropped straight down, out of fuel you'd have a glide slope and some frantic calls.. Scary.

stevej37 03-22-2022 12:53 PM

Agree...it was def not an 'out of fuel' situ.

I hope they can recover the black box...at the speed it hit the ground...I wonder.

Looks a lot like a run away stab, or possibly suicide. Not many things drive you into the ground like a lawn dart.

I say suicide, otherwise there would have been a mayday call.

This incident was with a 737-800 NG. These do not have the MCAS system that could result in runaway elevator trim. That was an issue on the 737-MAX series.

It is unnerving that as the aircraft descended, for about 2-3 minutes, no distress call from the flight crew was made.

avi8torny 03-22-2022 02:50 PM

Suicide. Airplanes need some human intervention to do that sort of thing from that altitude.

David 03-22-2022 02:51 PM

As long as it still has wings, anything besides suicide that could cause it to nose dive straight in?

KFC911 03-22-2022 02:55 PM

Thought I heard where it ascended for 1K' towards the end of the nosedive. If true ... a fight over the controls, etc. mebbe? I dunno...

Higgins has been too busy sanding and fitting to offer any clues ;)

flatbutt 03-22-2022 02:58 PM

I heard that it dove, recovered slightly then augered in.

A930Rocket 03-22-2022 03:11 PM

The video I saw showed it flying vertically into the ground at high speed. It had to be terrifying onboard.

ramonesfreak 03-22-2022 03:12 PM

Heard that too which made me think intentional with a struggle over controls

Does a black box recorder "survive" a 3xx mph to zero impact?

Jeff Higgins 03-22-2022 04:25 PM

Yes, the black box is designed to survive that sort of an impact. Aircraft black boxes and cockroaches will be the last things that survive when this planet dies and goes all "black hole"...

And, yeah, it sure sounds like it was on purpose. Didn't a guy do that somewhere in Europe not all that long ago?

Germanwings flight 7 years ago almost to the day.

List of suicide by pilot: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_by_pilot

Terrifying.

pwd72s 03-22-2022 04:58 PM

China? Could have been somebody on board that somebody powerful didn't like...you never know.

Bill Douglas 03-22-2022 06:08 PM

Maybe China hadn't kept up the payments to Boeing. And you you know what happens next...

Rick Lee 03-22-2022 07:58 PM

Just gut wrenching. So sad for the passengers, crew and their loved ones.

Evans, Marv 03-22-2022 08:07 PM

Was supposedly approaching the speed of sound toward the end.
