'87 Mustang GT

Ever driven one? Pretty small for me...but I'm 6'3". That said, a time proven drive train, gobs of aftermarket parts...
|
I drove it onto the trailer. :)
Been raining so I will take it out later this week. |
So the Caddy's gone? Have fun with this one...
|
How many miles? Find out if you can if the oil pump housing is aluminum or not. If it is, change it. Ask me how I know.
|
Awesome!
I have a 92 LX 5.0 |
Fun cars for the money. Don’t get the automatic and watch the brakes.
|
I will check out the oil pump housing.
Also going through the brakes now, and they all look pretty good. All bushings, shocks, etc.. look fine. Going to replace the tires and go vroom vroom. Yup, got the slushbox! GA senator bought new for his wife back in 1987. They drove from GA to FL for the winters. So *only driven 104k highway miles by a little old lady! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1649266137.jpg |
Simple, parts are cheap, relatively quick (even by today's standards)- pretty much a cult classic.
Good score. Wish I bought one when high-milers were still being given away on CL. rjp |
I had a 89 GT Convertible, back in 1991, that i bought while in the military. It was a great car.
I reluctantly sold it while waiting to get hired for the job I'm now about to retire from in 2 months. The new owner drove it away, I cried and the very next morning I got the call that I had been hired. |
80’s Icon. On my list of must haves before I croak.
|
Mine was babied and the gears in the oil pump wore away a much bigger opening in the oil pump housing before jamming and damaging some bearings at 80K. It ran like a top until then. Had a friend rebuild it and had it balanced. Fun car- it was an '89 LX 5.0 Sport convertible. Cabernet Red with tan top and tan cloth seats. Swapped for some OEM Pony wheels I got off a trade in. I remember the advertising- "225 horses and bound to kick something." But it had 300 lb/ft of torque, so it felt strong.
|
Had the exact car -- except white top -- the set up was on all the Ford promos in the day.
225 HP --roller tappets --my wifes favorite of the toys we've had!! ENJOY.. |
I had an '85 GT convert w/HO 5.0 & 5-spd, last of the carb'd models. I got it with a blown engine as it had over heated from the radiator leaking due to it having been parked right on the beach at Malibu and the salt spray got to it. Anyway, I got a deal on factory long block and put it in. Used that car for a number of years as a commuter. Fun to unzip the back window, put down all the windows and cruise when it was really hot out with the A/C blowing cold at you. Like sitting in a cool cabana in the shade.

Here is mine, my daughter drove it her last two years in HS and my son gets it in May. My only rule was that they take their DL test in it, since it’s a manual. The paint is shot but cleans up nicely with a wax, like in this picture. |
|
That's a good looking car.
Stock ish? Im sure your son is drooling! Seems the fox bodies are starting to get some love. Looking forward to getting mine road worthy, and then putting some miles on her. |

Now I will probably think of that song every time I am 'rollin in my 5.0. |
I had a 1983 GT convertible with the 5.0. I want to say it was the first year of the convertible fox body and 1 of 1000… Woohoo.
Had a great time at the autocross and the track with it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1649300940.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1649300940.jpg |
I always thought the 5 liter Mustang engine note was one of the best! Love the sound when they’re accelerating.
