Any wood workers here?
I mean, detailed work? Inlays, etc. Only shop shop sounds on this video. Called himself a "beginning cue maker". Sheesh! Can't wait to see what he can do when he considers himself skilled.
17 minutes... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VZ0oKIy4oQ&ab_channel=Studiotronics

Nice work but there sure is a lot of computer guided equipment being used. Not exactly "hand" made.

I have always maintained I am not a slow carpenter, I am not a fast carpenter. I am a half-fast carpenter.

Very generally speaking, most CNC made cues sport rounded ends at the points...or the CNC is disguised with some ornamental inlay at the tip of the points. Commonly found on "factory" cues. If a cue sports needle sharp and even points with thin veneers, you're looking at a custom...but yes, custom cue makers use today's technology. This didn't look like a cheaply equipped shop to me. Not that I have a clue what any of it sells for.

Before the days of computers some guy would be standing there turning that cue by hand. The hardest part of that build which is tapering the cue and keeping it straight was done by a computer guided lathe. Last edited by drcoastline; 04-08-2022 at 03:09 PM.. |

Here is your boy, sick skills. I am posting only one video of his work. All hand made. If you watch the video he is guiding this lathe by hand.

^^ I believe he does the taper by offsetting the tailstock.

Tony Bautista is a very respected cue maker in the Philippines, where pool is a national sport. Top pro players often go there to fine tune their skills...they return home with tales of teenagers there who are world class players.
There have been reported problems with some cues from there. High humidity there...warpage as they dry out. Tony's cues have been offered for sale on AZB from time to time. I'm not a collector, but I have been tempted. https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/tony-bautista-cue.287311/
