First time out this season...put 80 miles on it this morning.
Runs great...will be 25 years old this August.
Eligible for a historical plate next year.

I put the Greddy muffler on it when it was about 3 years old. Since then, the thing has become louder each year. It's a good low bark...but I've been pulled over after lifting off the throttle.
I might replace it next year.

There are lots of diff shades of red. The one used by Honda for the 5th gen of Prelude is my favorite. I think they call it San Marino Red/

Vtec!

Yep...from the days when you felt Vtec kick in at higher revs. I think mine hits at 5500 rpm's.

Now, their engines use Vtec over the whole rpm range. Which is good, but not as noticeable as before.

It was a vast improvement from the stock exhaust. It's just getting burned out and too loud.
It's a Greddy..but I don't think they plan on them lasting 22 years...lol

The Vtec on our old '02 V-6 was a lot more noticeable than the Vtec on my current Accord.
Now the Vtec on my wife's CR-V is really noticeable and that engine rev's like there's no tomorrow. You can drive it all day without going over 2500 rpm. But when you have to GO it'll haul the bread with the best of them. That engine has a 7k rpm redline, which is pretty impressive for a big four cylinder that feels as smooth as silk even up in the upper reaches of the rpm range.

^^^ Yes...the Vtec in the Prelude is a jolt when it kicks in and is very noticeable.

My Civic...has Vtec and it's so smooth that I can't detect when it starts. But it also provides a lot of mid-range power.

Honda engines love to rev.

I am totally spoiled by the 3.5L in my Accord. No finer engine in my book. More than enough power for me and it can get good gas mileage as well. Gobbles up interstates like nothing else too.

If you've never tried one of the 3.5 V-6's, you just don't know.

Part of the miles that I put on today were on the interstate...the speed limit is 75 but everyone goes 80 or 90.
I stepped the Prelude up to 90 and it felt like it was just into it's happy range...straight as an arrow.

Honda likes to loaf their motors at freeway speeds at about 2200-2500 RPM.
On our CR-V, it is the only car I've ever had that actually gets better mileage at 72-75mph than it does at 70 because the motor can handle the slight ups 'n downs a lot better since it's on the torque curve just that little bit extra rpm that makes the difference.

I'll never forget the time we were going to Utah to watch our son play baseball in the League Championships in SLC. We're going up I-15, wife is driving, we're just north of Lost Wages having just crossed into Utah. There's a construction zone and it's narrowing down to one lane for a while. I look over at the speedo and we're doing the ton! I suggest that she slow down a tad as it is a construction zone and fines are doubled for tickets in them. She says she just wanted to beat the truck in the next lane so we didn't have to follow them.

^^^ My Fit was the opposite...if I drove it over 70 mph, the mpg dropped from 40 to 37 or less.
I haven't driven the Civic enough yet...but it seems to like the higher speeds more.

It all has to do with the torque curve of the engine and where they put the gearing.
I'm sure my Accord could cruise happily all day long at 75-80 and still return great (25+) mpg but I don't do that because of the cost of tickets these days.

I think there is an issue with the exhaust tip.

It is not ginormous!

The original muffler was flat...like a magnaflow. The Greddy was unable to be tucked in as far.
I installed a 75 shot zex kit and the Greddy really opened the exhaust flow...so I kept it.
