Bought by Caterpillar. https://www.cat.com/en_US/by-industry/marine/electromotive-diesel-engines.html EMD was a division of GM back in the day.
The facility in McCook just west of Chicago is gone - What equipment Cat took, the remaining either auctioned off or sold for scrap. Been ongoing. https://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-biz-caterpillar-progress-rail-mccook-closing-20180315-story.html https://bridgeindustrial.com/media/deal/bridge-industrial-acquires-former-progress-rail-site-in-mccook-il/
