!!!!!

My life has purpose again after this long cold winter.

stevej37 04-28-2022 05:23 PM

Now if only the warmer weather would stay!

I looked into the pond this am and the turtles looked dead..they didn't move.
It was 25 degrees...

I did talk to my computer nut kid today. He said 6 MBPS can play all the YouTube videos you choose and 16MBPS can stream XBox Live with one internet opponent in a newer first person shooter game.

Multiple opponents and multiple team mates will take a little more.

This is a 65 year old guy transferring "heresay" so just look at it as an order of magnitude thing.

I know. I texted this tenderoni this morning at 7:30, "28F.....WTF?"

She responds with "Huh?"

She's 54. Cute as a bug and she needs to thank her lucky stars for that.

The upload thing is what I'm not sure about. My download has been good..streaming movies works fine.
It's hard for me to understand why the upload can't be better. Do I need more juice??

Bob Kontak 04-28-2022 05:37 PM

Let me talk to Mr Wizard and revert. May be tomorrow before I hear but I gotta think 40 Mbps is plenty.

Worked for me in a few seconds. I didn’t wait and pressed the arrow right away.

^^^ Thanks
Maybe the upgrade was worth it.

I upgraded to the fastest speed Cox cable has. They call it Gigblast, but that is a lie, or pure advertising BS. I have never seen more than high 900s for download. And it is capped at 35 Mbps for upload.

For most of us, the fastest we can see is about 950 Mbps. The reason is our internal networks are 1GB. If you connected a single PC directly to your cable modem you might, might see 1000 Mbps.

There are 2.5GB and 10GB switches. And some cable modems allow a bonded connection for 4 circuits, allowing potentially 10GB. But you have to pay for faster connections and multiple connections. And then you are still limited on the downlink to about 50 Mbps per connection. Figure about $125 per bonded connection which for me would limit me to 4Gbps.

My computer has a Cat 6 cable plugged into the router. Everything else gets a Cat 6 cable to my switch and split the gigabit stream.

Cox told me the only way I can get a true Gigabit in my office is to switch to Fiber optic cable and they don’t offer that in my area as yet. Even then, I would need fiber in my house. For that small difference, I will not bother with fiber until it is free. That will be a long wait.

Highest available in my area is 1.2G via Comcast. Max I've ever gotten is like 950... This was this morning on a hardwired Macbook Pro but with a jump to a switch then to the modem.

stevej37 04-29-2022 09:21 AM

^^^ Your upload is about the same as mine now. That's the one I needed to improve.
I never had any issues with my download speed...streaming HD Netflix was always perfect.

wildthing 04-29-2022 09:24 AM

Fiber is better if you want faster upload speed. Cable was built for data coming in. Fiber was built for two-way comms.

stevej37 04-29-2022 09:30 AM

^^^ That will prob never happen because of where I live.
A very rural area. I still can't get natural gas...have to use an LP tank.
