Utility worker problem

Every single time someone from Sacramento Municipal Utility has come to my house there has been a problem. They come in the yard without notice, today they hit one of the dogs with a long stick. They claim they notified us, but the notice that was supposed to be on the front door, was in his hand. Last time there was a problem, they were instructed to call my office prior to trying to enter my yard, did not do that either.

I guess a certified letter from an attorney will be a better approach than trying to talk to them which has been totally ineffective.

Don't mess with a guy's dog....worse than messing with his car. (Or wife...if you're Will Smith.)

asphaltgambler 05-04-2022 10:35 AM

Yes^^^^^would not end well for him.....

MBAtarga 05-04-2022 10:53 AM

John Wick didn't like anyone messing with his dog either!

Next time the guy comes in the yard, whack him with a stick and ask him how he likes it.

Our water meter is right up front by the curb. It is the only meter anyone needs to put eyes on. Our gas meter and electric meters are all electronic and they read them from the street as they drive past.

My grandparents bought a house in 1928 that had a basement. The electric meter was down in the basement. The meter reader just walked in the back door, and down the stairs to read the meter. Just like the milkman, just walk in, open the fridge, (or ice box back then) and put in the milk, cream, and butter order, and haul off the empty bottles. Mom said she remembered many times eating breakfast with her sister, and a man would walk in the back door and go down into the basement. They did not think anything was strange about it.

By the 1950s the electric company moved the electric meter outside so they could read it easier.

No reason to hit a dog with a stick when they are in the back yard with no permission. That would not work for me either.

Well that was a waste of an hour and a half on the phone.

The supervisor was immediately flustered, because her underling told her some nonsense I did not mention. I ask for an address, and she gives me a PO box. I say no, I need a physical address, where there is someone to sign for a certified letter, because clearly can't trust them to admit to getting it. She gives me the address

6301 S St
Sacramento, CA 95817

This is a physical address right, there is someone there to sign for a certified letter.

Yes, there is a security officer.

I guess she felt threatened by someone complaining. I hope they never come back, but I know they will. If they make my wife defend the dogs from them, it won't end well.

If anyone hit any of my dogs with a stick - at a minimum, I would make sure they could never use their arms again.

Yeah, SMUD sucks. . . But still better than PG&E

It looks like their address is 6201, not 6301.

Who would expect good service from a place named "SMUD"?

Arizona_928 05-05-2022 12:36 AM

Just be glad it wasn't a leo. Instead of a stick it would be pb.

dad911 05-05-2022 02:04 AM

You have it on video?

cabmandone 05-05-2022 03:13 AM

^^^
He would if he had a video surveillance system! :D

Is it possible to move your fence to place the meter outside of your backyard? Or somehow make a window in the gate for them to read the meter? I would not take it lightly if they would ever have hit one of my dogs.

Post a No Trespassing sign on the area where they are gaining access too, to cover your butt.

I suspect there is more to this story.

stevej37 05-05-2022 08:32 AM

Both my meters, gas and electric have small gizmos on them that communicate via cell towers to the company. They never have to come out to read meters.

Right. I live in the boonies, but even 15-20 years ago when I lived in the 'burbs, we had smart meters for electricity that didn't require a reader to come out to the meter.
