heaven help me. i put up a for-sale ad on the Craiglist.

oh boy. it starts.
selling my extra Hobie Compass kayak. i refuse to be a hoarder. i hate Craigslist enough i offered the kayak to my brother for free. he said i lived to far. :) true but FREE.

not 15 minutes in, i get a cryptic email saying, "i want to buy it". no phone number or anything. i am not replying to his email, hoping to stay anonymous behind the craigslist. :)

i dont need to sell it, but right now i just load and unload it if a friend wants to come along. PIA. easier solo boating, or they bring their own boat. i dont need a "client boat".

Why don't you donate it?

i'm not that nice. and dont tell my wife, but i hope to use the money to buy a smith/wesson 686P. hehe.

I use facebook marketplace now. You can look up potential buyers info. No info, I assume they are scammers, I also ignore buyers asking for phone number or email address. Priced right stuff sells fast.

gacook 05-06-2022 08:36 AM

Too bad you're in Cali. Wife and I are actually looking to buy kayaks.

fastfredracing 05-06-2022 08:48 AM

I have to psyche myself up right before I click the " publish " button and all the idiocy ensues .
I try to answer every dumb question, and replay to all posts. You just never know .
Buying and selling online has become the wild wild west

crustychief 05-06-2022 08:51 AM

will you take 2 dollar a month payments until I get a job?

fastfredracing 05-06-2022 08:53 AM

No, I will not take your kia sedona on trade, no I will not take payments , look, I put up 8-10 pictures, if you want to see any more details of the vehicle, you have to come look for your pretty little self.

JackDidley 05-06-2022 09:07 AM

Just ignore the scam emails. Stuff sells pretty fast on C List so the BS emails are gone as soon as I kill the ad.

+1 on Facebook marketplace

I like to look on CL for cars but it has turned into the place were dealers and 'buy here pay here' lots advertise. I always set it to show lowest prices first. So those A double S hats use their down payment as their price and really screw up the listings by doing it.

Click on options, and go to "owner only."

I know you're asking $500, but will you take $47 and a couple of nintendo cartridges?
No, dude, I'll report you for not honoring a deal!
Come on man, I really need it, and you don't need or want it, so anything that you get is better than nothing.

I haven't sold online in forever (thank goodness) but I've seen lots of websites that supposedly have text exchanges of the nut jobs that try to buy stuff.

Is it still for sale?
No.
How about $50?
I sold it already.
OK, how about $40?

Scott Douglas 05-06-2022 11:19 AM

I once sold a camera via C-list. Had an exchange that went like this afterwards from someone who already had tried to low ball me on the price.

I'll give you $30 for it.
Won't sell it for $30.
Why not?
'Cause I already sold it for $45 to someone else.

Turns out I should have kept it. It was a sweet little camera.

How much does it cost to post an ad?

Rick Lee 05-06-2022 11:30 AM

Just write your ad in such a way that you will instantly know if someone read it and is serious. Ignore everyone else.

"Absolutely no trades, no shipping, cash, in-person only, no exceptions, don't even think of asking me to call you or email you outside of CL's system and don't ask if this is still available. If the ad is still showing, it's still avail. Anyone who ignores these terms will get no response from me."

Does it come with lessons and a camping trip?
