2016 mb c series

Question to the brain trust. My sister in law just picked up a 206 mb c series with just over 2k kms on the clock. Basically brand new. Apparently it was bought and sat for 6 yrs. The question is. Should she get the oil changed right away since the oil is 6 yrs old or should she leave the oil in there till she gets to 5k Atleast since it’s got the break in oil. Thanks ken

I’d change it now

Engine oil degrades from sitting. It absorbs moisture and also gets a bit acidic. Change the oil immediately.

Also, it is probably too late for this, but one should be extremely careful starting a car that has sat for a very long period of time. The initial crank of the engine is moving the pistons in cylinders that have very little oil in them because it has drained out over time, causing excessive wear. The same with crankshaft bearings.

Also check for rusty break lines and fuel lines under the car (likely under a plastic panel). A little-known secret is that there really should have been a recall on several generations of c-class cars (W204 & later) for rusty brake & fuel lines.

Of course, also check the disk brake rotors (esp. the rears) because those have a tenancy to rust from sitting.

I've owned several generations of C-class cars and I do like them, but like any other car things do go wrong.

I would find out if it came with break-in oil (I doubt it) and change with that if it did. It probably came with synthetic oil, which I would still change.

Thanks for the inputs. I will tell her to change it as well as check out the car. The starting part is abit late since she said the seller had started it.
