If Man made something
Other collect it. I have an old Craftsman Ratchet, belonged to my dad. I took it aprt, cleaned it's innards, put it back together. Pawls show wear, but it still functions well.
Known as a "BE" series. Wanting to learn more, searched youtube. Watching, I learned that my dad paid around $2.50 for it, back sometime between 1939 and 1946. Not worth much, but it now sits in the back of my 3/8" drivee drawer...nostalgia. Anyway, is collecting a hobby or a disease? You be the judge... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8O-kz2kic8&ab_channel=GearWolf |
If you ask my wife it's a disease I'm afflicted with and she's yet to cure me of it.

I still keep my first 3/8 SK ratchet from the 60's
It won't hold onto a socket anymore, but I'm used to that. |
I've got a bunch of my Dad's Craftsman tools, a hand saw and even a brass edged folding ruler.
|
There is absolutely nothing wrong with old things as long as they are still useful.
I'm not a collector - I just don't like buying new crap that wears out or breaks quickly. Most of my most trusted tools are older than I am... |
For awhile I was obsessed with potato ricers...I think because as a young lad I was the "designated ricer" in the kitchen. At any rate...so many eras and design quirks of these ricers - with some truly awful ones and some nice sturdy ones also. I liked them all...but am down to one as I've moved on.

I have a mossberg ratchet yes the gun people made it
pictures in the link https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/my-favorite-ratchet-wrench-mossberg-auto-cle.320336/ but it does not look like any ratchet I have ever seen more like an eggbeater maybe the first socket set and ratchet from 190x the sockets are forged 6 sided flat steel only standard thing is the 1/2 square drive later they made a more modern looking tool driver but keep the sockets found better pictures here http://alloy-artifacts.org/frank-mossberg-company.html#sockets |

i'm not sure you all know what "collection" means.
i have a hammer that literally i have no business owning. i'll keep it forever, and will smash the occasinal loose fence board back into alignment with a cool factor. that's not a collection. (every carpenter that goes thru my garage offers to buy it from me. now i hide it if a handyman comes by fix something) a box of tools is not a collection. maybe owning every type of 3/8 ratched made; that's a collection. this lady and her snow globes. yup. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1652720494.jpg i have a few too many old Coleman lanterns. i need to get rid of a few. i dont collect. hate it actually. feels like a gateway drug to hoarding. |
My wife has a mechanical monkey collection. I posted a picture years back Everyone thought they were creepy.
I have a weird thing for Stanley Planes. Just like them. Have a bunch. |
