The Mini is the this year's/semester's car-du-jour. Just like the TP loser a couple years ago, the new beater before that, the Miata before that, etc, etc, etc

Isabo, post a pic of your Mini when you have a chance. I'd like to see how it looks in Milan. Such a lovely city.

Thom, I'd remove the Miata from the list because it's got a proven following that's already lasted over a decade, and it's still actively used and tuned as a track car. That's more than just a fad - it's proven itself as being a good base to build on.

The MINI is showing the signs of being more than a fad as well, but remains unproven and is still, imo, iffy; rumblings from England and Europe, where it has been out a while, aren't encouraging. As MM pointed out, it's got potential as a track car, but I'll wait a few years until the honeymoon is over and the lustre has faded a bit before I open my own wallet. I hope it does turn out well, but it could go either way.

I used the Miata as an example of the "ohmygawdthatsocuteIgottahaveonenowatallcosts" boutique type of car. The fact that the Miata lasted as long as it has doesn't detract from the initial hype.

Spec Miata sounds like a cool way to get started in racing. You can get yourself into a race-ready car for $5k or so, from what I've read. You couldn't even do a 2.7L conversion on a 911 for that!

I think they are funny/cute. It is the tiny size with the bug head lights. They make me laugh. A neighbor has one and he seems happy to have it.

C'mon Sarah, we know you just like'm because they look like Spanky. ;)

Anyway, I'm amazed at how big they are. One parked next to my 911 the other day.

They definitely have a stout look about them. . . like a bulldog.
Hey Sarah, I hear bulldogs get their distinct faces as puppys, when they first start chasing parked cars. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/a_frusty.gif
:D

You know...I did not think of it that way...but I think you are right...it must be the short compact stockiness too. ;)

Ha Ha...there are so many here we have started punching eachother and yelling "Punch Mini"...they are like arzz holes already, everybody has one!

Park one of them beside an original Mini. Does anyone have a picture of that? Then you will see which car looks cute! I'd love to drive an new Mini. I learned to drive on an original model. What a hoot it was.

The new mini is small to me, but at least it is a real car. The original always struck me as being almost a "toy" car it was so un-believably small. That was part of it's alure.

I have a picture of an old mini next to a new one. The new one looks HUGE. I have find that photo.
