Beauty and the Beast all rolled up in one

Hayabusa, 200 HP and 200 MPH (Approx) and I'm glad I'm too old to get one.

When I got my '03 Yamaha with 140+ hp. years ago, I thought it was scarry. I don't think I'd like 200 hp.

I can’t imagine a chain spinning that by 200 miles an hour.

Not my cup of tea, but you can't deny the raw performance.

Hayabusa is Japanese for Peregrine Falcon. It was speed-limited to 199 mph when it first came out.

i rode a friends older model. it was stupid fast. it was huge and big feeling between my legs, but it squirted away from red lights.

when i got back on my 600, i almost looked down for the pedals.

Old bikers don't get old by accident.

I would take the Kawasaki supercharged H2 given the choice, 230hp 105 lb ft, 524lbs, those Suzuki's are pretty nice but heavy. I think all the super bikes Ducati/BMW are at around 220hp now, just don't turn off the wheelie control. My ZX1100D was pretty quick back in 1995 with only 145hp at the crank, cruse at 120mph without effort.

Actually 186…

As for the name, it’s a little more clever than one would first notice. It was meant to dethrone Honda’s Blackbird and it just so happens that peregrine falcons like to dine on blackbirds…

My memory was a little fuzzy. I believe the first Hayabusa was not speed limited, and the 2000 on models were limited to 300 kph = 186 mph. The 1999 was a bit faster.

All of them have been limited to 300 KPH, or 186 mph, from day one. Unrestricted, they go faster than that.

I don't believe the 1999 was limited.

The agreement to limit the speeds was reached in 1999, the same year the Busa was released. It’s essentially a handshake agreement, I don’t know that anybody has ever seen it on paper anywhere.

There was a little variation in the speeds that these things would reach over the years, from one individual bike to another, from one magazine test to another.

The fastest one is the current one, unrestricted it’ll knock on the door of 210.

I should also point out that the 2008 and later models were significantly more powerful than the 1999-2007 versions…

It took affect in the 2000 model year. Plenty of sources state there was no limit for the 1999 model.
