New Pelican Parts Catalog Section

So I had to order some parts for two of my cars and clicked on the parts catalog. I’m sorry but it’s terrible compared to the old style. Maybe it’s because I have gotten use to the older style but I feel it was more user friendly. I have always used my iPad in the horizontal position but you cannot with this version. Also the pictures are all wierd and stretched out. I already hate having to order parts online even though I have never had one issue with pelican but this new version needs some fixes. Just seeing if it’s just me (probably is ) or if others have issues also. Ok back to ordering parts.

I have not looked at it yet, but I do know that old people do not like change.

I had a look this morning and it seems ok and easy enough to navigate.
I like the way when you "add to cart" it brings up a separate window to the right that you can close and just carry on shopping

I might be imagining it but a couple of prices looked like they increased - things I had "saved for later"

I must be old, I'm not a fan of the new parts catalog. Too many pages with only one item on it. Not all change is good.

A new Christmas catalog/flyer came in the mail a couple weeks ago.
Almost every page had a QR code next to featured items.
That only hurried it's trip to the trash. I'm not using my phone to find prices in a catalog that they send to me.

I used to sell a range of parts through Pelican, but it was a hassle selling "one" through them.

But, we have kept up on a couple of items. One of them is the Cibie Hood mount rally light cover. I can't find it. I even have their internal part number. They just paid me for a small batch I sent them.

I understand I'm old and not an IT person, but if I can't find it under my company name (used to be able to), Cibie, or their own part number... then how is anyone else going to find it?

Also not a fan. I currently have about 10 orders pending, most of which do not show the parts I ordered in the order tracking area.

I'm not a fan of the new parts site either. I was hoping to build a shopping cart for some maintenance projects (brakes, oil change). I gave up. It was very clumsy to navigate around to find what I needed.

Geronimo - I've got a water pump for my '89 available (never used it. Not certain it'll fit your '86 though.

Make me an offer!

Just saw it for the first time today. Not a fan at all. Much less information per page. You have to scroll and page to see what could be viewed on a single page before. Makes finding what I need much more difficult.

I use the Project List feature a lot. It changed, too and also not for the better. Plus doesn't function very well.

With this downturn in ease of use, price becomes more of a factor for me. No sense in paying more if the purchase experience isn't better that other sites.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to chime in and let you know that we've been discussing your concerns with the front-end site refresh with our tech team, and it isn't falling on deaf ears. I just wanted to give you an update on and touch on some things in regard to our website:

We're working hard at trying to improve the site experience behind the scenes based on feedback we’ve received. The surveys are incredibly helpful, and we are in process of updating the header after listening to your suggestions- search is more prominent now along and sections are now much easier to find. If you want to vote on the final design, help us out here!: https://www.pelicanparts.com/support/design_survey.htm

And if you want to provide more detailed feedback in a way that’s most helpful for our developers as it digs into specific pages, you can do so here: : https://www.pelicanparts.com/support/new-look-2021.htm (this also helps report bugs like the iPad issues that should now be fixed).

Just to provide a little more background on why the site was updated and what should / shouldn’t have changed:

• The reality is that our previous site wasn’t up to snuff with things like ADA laws and the Mobile experience.
• We now have a responsive site, something the previous design couldn’t accommodate.
• This was a front-end update only. That means that all the back-end functionality – your project list, search, etc. – has NOT changed from what it was before.
• Search in particular hasn’t changed at all. It works exactly like it worked before the design update. That said, we know it needs an upgrade, especially as more and more parts have been added to the catalog. Some good news – the tech team is working towards implementing a solution that makes searching for parts more accurate, and they want to hear how you search for parts (entering part numbers, typing brands, typing specific items, etc). Let me know and I’ll pass it onto the tech team – this will help us work towards a better and more efficient solution.

The new look is just like getting into a new car, and we expected that it would take some time to get acclimated to. We’re also continually working behind the scenes to improve what isn’t working well.

RE: a couple other specific things I saw called out:

• Sebscst – iPad bugs have been fixed. Can you try again and let us know if the prior issues are resolved or if you see anything else?
• nzporsche944s2 – glad you like the ‘add to cart’ function being a bit more streamlined!
• tops911 and DaddyGlenn– we had to have a certain amount of spacing to be ADA compliant but we are looking into whether we can get more parts shown on a page while holding to ADA compliance rules.
• stevej37 – interesting, we don’t do catalogs right now, wonder who that was from?
• Soterik – Tom Gould, one of Pelican’s original founders alongside Wayne, heads up our product team. I’ll let him know about Cibie parts not showing up, and also I’ll let our tech team know in case it’s an IT thing, and feel free to e-mail Tom directly too so that he has your most current parts and price list. After 25 years, we feel lucky that Tom is still with us guiding the parts catalog.
• Geronimo – if you ‘Select Your Vehicle’ at the top of our homepage, it will lead you to the Parts catalog specific to your ’86 Carrera – something like this (assuming it’s a Coupe: https://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/0810_catalog.htm).
• Nickshu – this might be a bug. Again, none of the back-end functionality was supposed to change. Can you e-mail screengrabs and details to events@pelicanparts.com so we can forward to the tech team?
• Paul_Heery – same comment, none of the back-end functionality changed. If you could build a Shopping Cart and Project List before, you should still be able to do it now in the same way. If you can’t, please help fill out our survey or send screen grabs to events@pelicanparts.com so we can forward to the tech team as it might just be a bug.
• DaddyGlenn – Project List is not supposed to have changed, the design was front-end only, any back-end functionality is the same. If you are running into issues, please help fill out the survey as that goes to our tech team or e-mail us screen grabs (to events@pelicanparts.com) if it’s a bug. E-mails are easiest as we can just forward those to the tech team.

As always, you can also post more feedback here I’ll try to get you the information you need. Thanks everyone for your patience and understanding as we get through what was a necessary site update for ADA compliance and mobile responsiveness reasons!

Eric

I know we are not supposed to mention other parts suppliers here and I agree it's generally bad form to poop in our hosts house but.......

For my domestic vehicles, the stuff Pelican does not carry parts for I use ********.

Their site looks like something from 1980.

Very simple, get there, pick the manufacturer->year->model->category of parts.

It's a very simple drill down directory structure.

It's not pretty, it's not flashy, but it's a parts catalog, it doesn't need to be any of those things.

What it needs is to be is quick and efficient. If your users need to resort to a search function then you've got it wrong.

Worry less about UI and focus on UX.

EDIT: interesting, a filter for the site and not even the full URL. Well I guess Pelican knows what it has filters for so you can figure it out. Can you smell what the.......

Mods if my edit upsets you I apologize but I think it's more important to retain customers by making the site as user friendly and functional as you can so yes, because I love Pelican I'm breaking the rule.

Hey everyone, just letting you know that we we have some good news to come on search very soon. The tech team has been working hard to make it more user friendly and they've listened to the feedback given so far. I think we should be about a week or two away from a nice update!

I'll take a good old fashioned paper catalog over website shopping any day.

Now get off my lawn!

So, you may have noticed our search bar looked a little different this past Friday. I’m pleased to announce that with we have completely revamped the search function! We listened to your feedback through the surveys and significantly improved how you can search on the site. Search results now should be much more accurate to what you are now searching for. The search function also features predictive behavior as you type, making it easier to find the parts you need. Searching manufacturer part numbers is also much more accurate now. Give the search function a try today and let us know how you like it! If you have suggestions on how to further improve it, or changes you’d like to see, let us know by take this quick survey below!
