In about 1984, I was dabbling in road racing with a regular Suzook GS1000. It was a national Superbike race in Seattle. Us locals raced on Saturday, big boys on Sunday. Open practice on Saturday morning had us all out there together. In the rain.
Wes Cooley went down at about 80 right in front of me. He's sliding down the track on his back and I'm doing all I can to not run over him. It was a close call, but I stayed up and missed him. I had 2 GS1000S for many years and foolishly let Joe Bob talk me out of the one in the photo. Still have the other one. Cooley was a nurse in Twin Falls, ID till he passed last year. |
I picked up a slightly used GS1000ST in late 1981 was sitting on the floor of Simi cycles for a few months so I traded in my gs750. I held on to it until 1990, many miles and smiles later...loved that bike. Put a ton of work into it. also picked up a gs1000sz in 1983 (painted it to match the 1980s, I bet if Suzuki painted them like mine they would have sold a lot more lol
