e30 wont start

just thought i would drop this out there.

just did timing belt and new injectors on my sons e30.
now it wont start.
i put new plugs in it and after 3-4 attempts pulled them and they are BLACK.
not oil but soot. too rich

the injectors he ordered do not look the same as the old ones. the tips are very different. FCP says they are the correct ones.

it did run before we started. rough, but it ran. the old plugs did not look this bad.
in fact i put them back in originally and they were extremely black, thus why i put new ones in so i could see how rich it was.

oh we put in new gas tank too. now the fuel is clean coming out of fuel rail.

he may have put in a higher flow fuel pump. not sure if pressure is different or if the reg would correct it but this FP was in it when it was running.

There is a small wiring harness connection under the intake manifold (assuming it is a 6 cylinder) It is hard to see and get to! This connection can fill with dirt / oil / water etc. I had similar problems until we found this connection and I cleaned it out.
Just an idea! Good luck!

That sucks, remove the rocker cover and check the cam timing marks, while in there change the injectors to the old ones.

This. I had the same issue and this was the solution.

Yes
Putting old injectors back on is the next option.
He did leave a hose off the charcoal canister line that goes to the tank.
Could be a possible air leak but why are the plugs black

Have you confirmed there's spark?

T77911S 06-10-2022 04:57 AM

Yes I did the other day
Also it tries to fire.

May have figured it out.
Dumb me.
I forgot the engine bracket that goes behind the upper timing cover. Not the first time either.
When I bolted up the dist cap I broke the rotor and cap. Then I put that bracket back on
Son put on old cap and rotor.
I pulled it back off last night and this one was broken too
Looking at the adapter that the rotor bolts to it looks to be bent making the rotor turn in an oblong pattern. But. The post on the cap were not damaged ???? Just the center had marks on it. Don’t know how that metal adapter could get bent from something plastic.
Going to let my brother look at it today.

Just sent you a PM.

It runs.
I pulled that adapter off and put it back on and no more wobble from the rotor
