Has auto pic resizing been removed ?
When trying to attach a pic on this forum it says size must be less than 5 mg but it also says it will " auto size " pics . I just tried to attach a pic that was 5.5 mg in size and I received a message saying file size too large .
Has the auto resize function been removed or turned off on the site ? I don't know how to resize pics on my phone . |
I think the auto resize has to do with the pixel width, which is 800 maximum. Uploading an image that is 1,500 pixels wide (as an example) is not a problem. So, a 5 MB file won't even upload. It would be nice if this forum could handle larger files, and files of different types. I think with most people's monitors, 800 pixels wide has become a little small as well.
I would appreciate it if members refrain from linking to huge images that are (say) 2,000 pixels wide or wider. Then the rest of the thread gets shrunk and a scroll bar appears to access the whole image. |
800 or 1024 seems to work best.
Not sure if people can even see 600 on their smartphones but it's even smaller. It takes a while for PP to resize something that large if it does it at all. It seems to bauwk at >2MB. Irfanview and other photo viewers will resize them. |
The 5mb limit has always been in force for uploads.... hence I rarely post a pic. I'd contact Nostatic :D
It's a trivial issue to "fix", but just like a lot of things going on with the forums..... It's not "Wayne's World" anymore, and no one gives a damn about these forums anymore.... sad :(. |
I don't think it has ever been able to resize anything larger than 5MB. I know I've never had any luck uploading larger than that.

YMMV. |
Yes, there's 2 limitations for pics uploaded to the forums. One is image resolution size (no wider than 800 pixels), and the second is file size (used to be 2MB, but now it's 5MB).
If you upload an image that is 4.5MB and is 2048x1536 after the upload it'll be 800x600 and much smaller. If you upload an image that's 800x600 and is 4.5MB, it'll still be 800x600, but may be smaller (it would probably be tough to create a jpg with those specs). |

^ If you did that, resize it to under 5MB and let Pelican shrink it down to 800 pixels wide.
I use Paint to convert to file types Pelican will upload and resize to 800. Or edit and crop somewhere else. |
I usually take pics in full resolution and anything but a real closeup shot exceeds 5mb. Looked into resizing them several years back, but there's no "easy" way... Android phone, no apps, email attachment to myself, etc., nothing worked. It's no biggie .... ya'll just don't get to see my mutt pics :D.
It would take about as long to "fix" on the site as it would to add Seahawk to the moderator list imo. I'm gonna pester Nostatic about this ;) |
The upload size is limited to 5mb.
Which is different than the pixel dimensions of the image. |
There's no option for "post apple upside down" or "widebody large"
|
File size is ALL that matters. It HAS to be a JPG file. No PNG, it will vanish.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655059566.jpg This image has lots of pixel width, and is just compressed to be under 5 MB. Pelican resized it to work. Just click the "GO Advanced button" and that brings up guess what, the advance posting options, click the Click Here to Upload Photos button, and just drag and drop you photo to the window. TA DA! Click the Submit reply button, and done. |
^^^ Where is the " go advanced button " ?

you can rename png to jpg before upload and it will work just fine |
I'm still using Irfanview that Warren (rip) introduced me to through this forum many, many years ago. It seems like only a few years ago pictures were added to the bbs.
